Re: I think my browser was hijacked

Hi...

This should fix it..

Download Spybot (written by Patrick Kolla). Click <download> from
http://www.safer-networking.org/
Save spybotsd13.exe into its own directory, NOT in a TEMPorary folder or on the Desktop.
I recommend c:/program files/spybot/
Doubleclick spybotsd13.exe. Make sure to direct the program to install in the c:/program files/spybot/ directory, NOT the default directory.
Open Spybot from Start | Programs | Spybot | Spybot S&D
Select <Search for Updates>. Let it install all updates. This is very important!
Select <Immunize>
Select <Check for Problems>
Check all entries that are in RED. Only RED, NOTHING ELSE. For your records, write/print out each item that you have fixed. Date it.
Select <Fix Selected Problems>
Close Spybot//

Re: I think my browser was hijacked

I found these instruction on the net.See if they help.

Quote:

Due to recent changes requiring a signin for "Completed Items" search on eBay guess this page needs to be updated... To return your ability to view "Completed Items" you will need to remove http://search-completed.ebay.com from your previous Internet Explorer tweak. The instructions below will still speed up page loads on category and search results pages... It will suppress many eBay errors that interfer with your daily activities here... It will have no adverse affects on any other site... The only possible interference you may experience will be if you click the "Refine Search" link from a search results page... Clicking that link will take you to eBay's Advanced Search located at search.ebay with the original search keyword(s) already prepopulated in the text field... An identical Advanced Search exists on pages.ebay and can be used without problems.
FIRST, clear the browser's cache:
A. Click on "Tools" in the IE toolbar...
B. Scroll the drop-down menu to "Internet Options" and click...
C. The Internet Options dialog box pops up with the "General" tab on top...
D. Click "Delete Files"...
E. In the next pop-up put a check mark in the box for "Delete all off-line content" and click "OK"...
F. Once the cache purge is finished click "OK"

SECOND, stop the JavaScript downloads on the search results pages:
1. Click on the "Tools" button again in your toolbar.
2. Click on "Internet options" again in the dropdown.
3. Click on the "Security" tab in the pop-up window.
4. Click on the "Restricted sites" icon (red w/white dash).
5. Click on the "Sites..." button.
6. Add the following URLs one at a time... Clicking the "Add" button after each:
http://www.admarketplace.net

I do not have a problem if I go to ebay.com. I have a problem when I click on ebay link in froogle.com. I had followed the instruction, but still have a problem.

Re: I think my browser was hijacked

This is some information from another mod on this forum..

Quote:

I had a similar problem on my own Computer recently.
Basically what was happening was when I tried to access dell,co.uk/offer I was immediately redirected to http://adfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/ck/2397-19979-8602-4 and I got a blank page.
I then tried to access the same site using an old test Computer and I was redirected to dell europe and the offer.

The only difference between the Computers was my host files on my main Computer cantained mediaplex. Once I loaded the same host files to the second Computer I got the same problem.

I understand both Dell and Ebay use this adware company so there isn't a lot can be done to remedy the problem.

His advise is this:
Do you have media plex among your host files ?. If you do put a # entry in front of all the mediaplex host file entries, that should allow the site to open.

Check to show hidden files instructions (WinXP)
Doubleclick My Computer | Tools | Folder Options | View tab
Select Show Hidden Files and Folders
Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types
Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
Select Apply to All Folders | Yes | Apply | OK

Host files should be in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS

Re: I think my browser was hijacked

Ok.Maybe we should clean out all the host files and then let them regenerate..

Download and run DELDOMAINS then double click to open the DelDomains.inf .To execute the file: right-click and Select 'Install' from the Menu.

Reboot when done..

Ok,lets see if this helps

Download Ewido Anti-Malware
  • Install Ewido Anti-Malware
  • Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch Ewido
You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the top of the main screen click Shield
  • Click the word active to change it to inactive
  • On the top of the main screen click Update.
  • Then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido. When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido.

Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. To boot into Safe Mode, please restart your computer. Tap F8 before Windows loads. Select Safe Mode on the screen that appears.
  • In Safe Mode,run Ewido.
  • Click Scanner
  • Click on the Scan tab
  • Click Complete System Scan to begin scanning.
  • When the scan is complete click Recommended Action and change it to Quarantine
  • Then click Apply all actions
Once finished, click the Save report button, then click Save Report As. This will create a text file.

Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
Restart back into Normal Mode.
Please perform another scan with Hijack This, and then post back with a copy of the Ewido log and the new HijackThis log.

Re: I think my browser was hijacked

It nearly sliped my mind but was just reminded.Download the program Hoster

When it opens, click on the Restore Original Hosts button and then exit Hoster.

That should finish the fix...

Re: I think my browser was hijacked

Ok lets try this.I must admit I,m getting short on ideas

Ok.What you now need to do is turn off your System Restore, reboot, turn it back on and creat a new restore point.

1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Select the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.
4. Click Yes when you receive the prompt to the turn off System Restore.

Turn on System Restore
To turn on System Restore, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Clear the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.

Run Disk Cleanup
Click "Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup"
Please make sure the following are checked:
-- Downloaded Program Files
-- Temporary Internet Files
-- Recycle Bin
-- Temporary Files
Click "OK" and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Then re-run Hoster again.

Re: I think my browser was hijacked

To Pancake
It was I who asked the lady to post here and if you are wondering how she resolved the issue she went to www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm
and downloaded WinsockXPFix.exe (1 MB file) Illustrated Instructions on this webpage.
I have currently got an unrelated posting Pending which looks as though this will help resolve the issue (was looking at a router driver reinstall?) and the lady has given me a possible workaround the problem (whereever she found this?)
Neither you nor I suggested this method...But It worked!

Re: I think my browser was hijacked

To BedstorfromAP,

We are very concerned about the referrals from your "other site" First of all, you have to be authorised by admin to respond to posts in the Hijackthis forum. Secondly the original poster made no mention of the fact she was receiving help and advice on the same subject on other forums. In this instance she received a considerable amount of advice in a two page thread, mostly from yourself here and subsequently on August 18th. from here. Had we been aware of this at the outset we may not have become involved.

If you do refer anyone here in future, to avoid confusion and the potential for conflicting advice which could lead to even more difficulties, please ensure that full information and links about the referral is included in the original post and that the original thread on your other site is closed.

Joe.

Re: I think my browser was hijacked

Thanks Joe ,have taken that on board

Have said before we don't have resident Hijackthis interpretators (on site) so we have to politely push people in this direction (or somewhere else)If its beyond me or my co-workers to fix the problem by normal means
and I agree that they should acknowlege they have been to the other site first ( with a link to their posting?) But they seem to start from scratch again here The link back is useful for your reference. They'll think its time consuming that they'll be saying "This guy is saying the same things as the other guy!"
and Joe? we have had those types pass through our forums many times
And B) the reason is we only have a handful of people answering questions in this section regularly also because of timezone differences (and we have to be elsewhere in the Forum as well to cover....we are knowledgeble but not experts at many subjects ) For instance I had to find and supply a link for Vibration white finger and the location of an indicator relay box in a car....all in 1 recent session (so I am a man of many heads! )
Who knows, could be a cookery question for my search skills today?
