JPG/JPF file help?

Hello,

I am trying to get copies of some digital photos from a friend. When she originally e-mailed them through to me they were very small (about 50kb) JPG files so I asked if she could perhaps resize them and make them about 1MB so that I could print them.

She resized them for me to 1MB (I am not sure what program she used but I think it was Photoshop) but when she sent them back I could not open them on my computer as it said they were JPF files.

I've since asked her to send them as JPGs but she can't seem to understand how to as she hasn't purposely changed the file format.

My computer doesn't have photoshop or anything snazzy like that, just MS Office Picture Manager and it is Windows XP.

Does anyone know what I can do or why the file seems to be changing itself?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: JPG/JPF file help?

*.jpf files are image files saved in the "JPEG 2000" format, which a few years back was being heralded as the new format that was going to revolutionise digital imaging.
It did not catch on.
Most image editor progs. do not have the facility to save in this format unless by virtue of an installed plug in.
I suspect your friend has such a plug in, and has saved as JPEG 2000 by mistake instead of JPEG.
If her prog. was able to save as JPEG 2000, it will be able to read these files and resave them as JPEG.

If that is not possible, if you have a look at http://www.fileinfo.net/extension/jpf you will be able to see the very few progs. that can open these files.

Re: JPG/JPF file help?

Seems the old Web User favourite Irfanview is up to the job of converting JPEG 2000 files, but you'll need to download a plug-in - click on the link on the left of the Irfanview web page for more info.

Re: JPG/JPF file help?

Hi, andys...........that's interesting, did not know Irfanview could do that.

The OP mentioned Photoshop and I do know that there was/is a plug-in for that which is why I framed my answer as I did.

It would be nice, though, if the OP could tell us how he/she is getting along and if the "fix" has in any way helped.

Thank you! I've now got it sorted and my friend has given me the JPG images.
