Darkening An Image

My wife gave me the task of creating a letterhead with a logo that she was given so that she could write letters in Word. I'm not very good with Word but managed to get the layout correct. However when I come to print the letters the logo which I copied (which wasn't a very good image in the first place) is a much lighter colour and is very difficult to read. Is there any way that I can darken this image so that when inserted into the Word document it prints the same hue. I have tried on Photoshop to no avail.

Cheers

Re: Darkening An Image

Thanks for that Ray but it's not really working. The image is just a black / white / grey icon and I'm struggling to keep the correct balance.

Ray, I've changed tack.......I went on to Google and came up with an image and though it was in colour downloaded it and altered it to black and white. I've just got to add a name at the top and bingo I think I'll have it. Cheers for your input anyway.
