how to make a poster (4 or 6 pages) of a photo ?

hello. can anyone pls advice which free software would be the best to use to make a poster of 4 or 6 pages from a photo...? all i know is that if the size of the photo is small it may be difficult but using irfanview i can enlarge it..can't i ? pls advice..

i did try that but it needs really large sized images...i mean an image which was 1MB odds i enlarged it to 11,101MB...but still it dont make a four or 6 or 8 A4 size prints...
