Setting Your Preferences

The forum is highly configurable and to help you set it up as you want there are three pages of settings, under the User Options menu:

Re: Setting Your Preferences

First, you have to sign up for some web space on a site which does free image hosting. Try Walagata or Image Shack Then you can upload your picture(s) to your new account. When you've done that successfully, go to User Options and click on Edit by Personal Info... Scroll down to where it says Your Picture and either type or copy and paste the URL of the picture as shown on the image hosting site, into the box underneath. Click Submit and it should work!

Re: Setting Your Preferences

the picture has to be on the internet not in your computer, if your isp gave you free web space you will have to upload the picture to there then put the url in the address bar in user options.

if you don't have any free webspace see madelines post above.

Re: Setting Your Preferences

in that case the site that you got it from don't allow "hotlinking", when you do it like that you are using their bandwidth and a lot of sites block "hotlinking". you might have to save it and upload it to the likes of walagatta or image shack.

Re: Setting Your Preferences

See my post above. When you've got some pictures on your image hosting site, go to User Options>Personal Information and click Edit on there. Then put the URL for your chosen picture from your image hosting site where it says "Your Picture".

Re: Setting Your Preferences

An easy way to add a pic (I find) is to get find one the correct size - or smaller. Remember it has to be a maximum of 65x75 pixels - and right-click on it.

Next, choose 'Properties' and then highlight the url by left clicking at the beginning and holding the click until you reach the end of the url. hen, using your ctrl C keys on your keyboard to copy, add the url to the "Your Picture (Entire URL - Picture size is 65x75 pixels)" box and paste using ctrl V keys.

Click 'Submit' and your new picture should be in place!

HTH?!

Cheers,

alba.

Re: Setting Your Preferences

Even if it's a bit big, you can still use it. It'll just get re-sized to 65x70. Mine's actually 123x170. However, if it's really big, it might look a bit squashed after re-sizing.

Re: Setting Your Preferences

Thanks Madeline - I was not too sure if slightly larger pictures would be compressed or not, and taking this into account, tried to give the best advice following the stated image size in Options >Profile.

Cheers,

Re: Setting Your Preferences

You did the right thing. I just thought I'd point out to anyone that you can use larger files, but that they would be compressed and could possibly end up looking a bit odd!

Re: Setting Your Preferences

The easiest solution is to adhere to the ratio 75:65, no matter what size the images are they will not be distorted on reduction.

Re: Setting Your Preferences

True, TFC, but it's not easy to find one of the exact size. At least mine isn't distorted, just smaller.
Well done, Tango30. Nice picture!

In reply to:

... it's not easy to find one of the exact size....

But it's do-able by editing (a basic task, even). Ask the question in the Graphics Forum, get the answer, learn something new....

I just wanted to send a reply saying that Image shack is very simple to use. Also to see what Pc Plod looks like. I hope it worked

Re: Setting Your Preferences

Thanks, Dave. I did put a post on the Graphics forum and found out that I can resize a picture on Walagata, which I've been using for some time. I just didn't know they had that facility.
