Why should I register a Username?

Currently we do not allow people to post to the forums without registering first. By registering a Username, you will be able to edit your profile and preferences. You will get the most out of your time here if you change your profile to suit your individual tastes. There are a lot of options in your profile to make your experience here more enjoyable, so please take a few moments to try the various settings. Also only people with registered Usernames can take advantage of the "New Posts" feature upon each visit.

Re: Why should I register a Username?

Try this,

click on user options and then edit your personal details where you first registered. Make sure you "submit" the changes.

Joe, the option to change your username isn't there, i would also like to change mine in case it offends anyone.

Re: Why should I register a Username?

I'm afraid you are stuck with the user name you registered. Even admins can't change it for you. If you are really unhappy with your user name, you can re-register. I've heard those hippies can get really nasty

You should be able to. If not, let me know and I'll kill your old account. Oops, wrong choice of word.
cheers, Andrew (not Paul, not even slightly)

Re: Why should I register a User-name?

Yes it appears that you are right. In that case why not just register again with a new user name etc?

It's unusual not to be able to edit your personal details, perhaps it would be an idea to post a enquiry for Paul Lomax.

Re: Why should I register a User-name?

I have done Joe, but i had to set up a new e-mail account first as i wasn't allowed to use the same one twice. Killallhippies is now deceased. Never liked him much anyway.

Gave the rest of us a good chuckle though!

Might still be worth posting a message to Paul in case it's an oversight?

Re: Why should I register a User-name?

I checked with Paul and you can't register more than one user name with the same email address.

Re: Why should I register a User-name?

What happens if you move house, does that mean you cannot amend your log-on details? I understand about the e-mail address but I've changed my user details before on other forums, why not here?

Joe, as i understand it you can change everything except your username, so even if you move house you should be ok.

Thanks for that, can't see any information on it though. I guess I shall be alright as long as I remain in London!

So much for that, we have so many anonymous users, I don't know whether I'm coming or going.. Its ok for you admin you can see the IP address of the poster but I could actually be replying to the same person 30 times and would never know

Gripe over, I'll get back to work

Re: Why should I register a Username?

I think I said elsewhere on these pages that we'd allow anonymous posters initially to help the user base grow quickly. Now we're ticking towards 1000 registered users this "policy" is up for review and I hear your concerns loud and clear. Hopefully we've proved that registering doesn't result in a plague of frogs upon your home (although it could seriously reduce your spare time ). Watch this space.

Re: Why should I register a Username?

Thank you for listening, Andrew

A certain amount of what I said was due to the fact I'd had a hard day at college, and was knackered, for that I apologise. Saying that, it is actually nice to put a name to problem. As you can imagine, sometimes when we are working on more than one problem at a time, and they are all anonymous, it can be difficult to differentiate

As to the part about it seriously reducing your spare time, tell me about it

Re: Why should I register a User-name?

Does this mean that all usernames used are those that are on the original Email addresses. I must be an innocent I thought I did'nt have the intelligence to append a different name ?

Re: Why should I register a User-name?

your user name is linked to your email address, if you try changing your user name you can't, you would have to supply a new email address and re-register with the new user name.

As long as you are logged into the forums then you can post. You do have posting rights, unless it's within a read only forum.
