Easy error to make when posting Hyperlinks...Remember your Space!

I have had a few postings turn out with non functioning hyperlinks the Link displays but does not work this does work www.webuser.co.uk/forums but this does not,www.webuser.co.uk/forums
Reason..leave a "space" before the link starts...sometimes occurs with manual links by leaving no space in front of the URL or other "tag" thus.[url=... Leaving the link open So If this happens to you think about the "spacing" issue

Some site servers software do allow for this "error" and makes up the link regardless of the character sitting in front of the Markup tag but there is no Such Help on this Site

I see your point Mike, but that happens because it is a typing error!
It's not correct English grammar to write a sentence with no gap after a , (comma), a . (full stop) or any punctuation mark for that matter.

If you do this say in Microsoft Word with the Spelling and Grammar check activated, it warns of the 'error', either a spelling mistake or a grammar issue.

Hello_There maybe could verify what I have written.

You're right Fusion.

I think that Bedstor is suggesting to ensure that a space is made before clicking on the URL in Instant Mark-Up. As a secretary, it's automatic for me to hit the space bar after typing a word or sentence, but I must admit I thought it's obvious to leave a space in any case...the same as if you were writing a letter.

However, if I'm wrong, it's because I'm still trying to decypher his post!!! :

I have just tried with the instant Markup-up leaving no gap before inserting the URL and it creates a gap for you.
Not sure what Bedstor means.

Re: Easy error to make when posting Hyperlinks...Remember your Space!

See this andthis? Odd thing is when doing almost anything other than a Hyperlink. It (The server software)Makes the correct decision
Go to "Long strings"Such as URL Image ect we get www.webuser.co.uk (Good)
random character(no space!) then.www.webuser.co.uk ( Usable but not live...Then
The Manual version.<a href="www.webuser.co.uk" target="_blank">www.webuser.co.uk</a>
Which does get accepted because the Control characters (tags) are already in situ
Can you see what I'm saying now?
History Note.. The term Control characters (or codes) goes way back to the days of the the ZX81 and C64 When we had to type programs in from the computer magazines Remember Zap! anyone?

I see the Old issue of non working Manual link is still with the W/U server Had to re-edit the "Made-up" link that occurs sometimes is the link is not edited afterwards (and the "Space" is omitted) ...Messy to clear up

Have done it again So I've left it(in place) to show you the Mess that Happens

This topic started off confusing, then got progressively worse, now it just makes no sense at all.

If the posts have been pinched do the fences fall down?

When posts are removed which were posted earlier, yes, it makes it all the more confusing.

So Fusion, what was the point in your initial reply?

My post was at first very tongue in cheek. I then removed it for a very good reason, and that was the end of the of it.

However, you deemed it on yourself to post a reply. I'm not sure, but was it in your interests to try and cause conflict within the boards?

Re: Easy error to make when posting Hyperlinks...Remember your Space!

You're post was removed because it was of a sarcastic nature. End of story.
Was it you're initial intent to cause ridicule at the original posters query and thought better of it or more likely were told to remove it?

I pointed out a potential reason for the hyper link problem. Why did you post you're s

No conflict intended . . . . can you say the same?

You did a similar trick with the "The beauty of YourTube" posting, a genuine mistake by the poster but you had to make the sarcastic remark.
Somehow that's been removed and rectified also!

EDIT: tongue in cheek . . . A recent entry. The beauty of the editing time.

Everyone is at liberty to change the content, or intent, of a post within the time given. However, commenting on what has been removed, retrospectively, serves no purpose, surely.
