Hi, I'm a new member. On opening emails that have been sent to me over the last few days, I find that they are empty, zilch!, nothing. The email addresses are all jumbled letters of the alphabet ie HKLJVWES@halifax.... I have also had emails from MSM and Hotmail exactly the same. Can anyone tell me what this is all about? Do I have a problem with my email? Regards turlac |

Hi Turlac, I've also had this problem as well. But no you're not having problems with your email. It's just MSN and hotmail messing about. It happens quite often. I often get emails with loads of letters in them such as AAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZ etc and a really funny email address that I knew that I have never seen before. Just ignore them and delete them. It's nothing to do with you. Hope that helps. Love, Becky xxxxxxxxx Becky |

If you don't recognise the sender of e-mails, please delete them immediately without trying to open the mail. The ones you're getting sound like virus filled e-mails and if you've got an anti-virus program (which you should have!), then the program is protecting your computer and deleting the virus attachment.

Thanks for getting back to me so quick and for your advice. I have Norton's Anti-Virus and Firewall installed. Reading your advice, I'm glad I had the sense to do so. Many thanks. |

If you get your e-mails via Outlook Express, Norton AV should be alerting you and deleting attachments and putting them in quarantine. But it's still better to be safe than sorry, and just get rid of any mails you don't recognise. Please also ensure that you to a Live Update every day, even if the "Automatic Live Update" is switched to "On".

I do get my emails through Outlook Express but I am not getting the 'Alerts' That you mention. Do you know why that is? I update regularly. turlac |

It could be that the e-mails you're getting are junk/spam ones and not e-mails with virus attachments. If your Norton definitions are up-to-date and your computer is running smoothly then all should be ok!

Sometimes e-mails just are empty. It's not always that an attachment has been removed. Just some idiot probably. Either that or someone accidentally clicks on "send" before typing anything. I've had 3 e-mails in recent weeks with "Netsky" attached as a .zip file. I didn't open them, of course, but scanned them with AVG out of curiosity, which is how I know which "nasty" it was. In each case the word "document" appeared in the subject line. I found this document about you. Here's the document you asked for. That sort of thing. Be on your guard and just delete everything you don't recognise. Barney's Place - There is intelligent life on Earth, but I'm only visiting. |
