Sounds horrendous Joe. Fortunately I've never had any dealings with them but i must say looking at your link can understand why they are synonymous with the phrase A O Hell. Can't say I've ever seen an article praising their virtues.

It certainly does. Like you I've never used them so I can't speak from personal experience. Since posting I looked at the cost of the software and thats also horrendous, no idea about the restrictions on the trial version though.

That's dreadful. We had a lucky escape 5 years ago when we decided against getting AOL.

I'm still amazed that people subscribe to their services, more so for folk in the UK, it's America OnLine, not UK, they're very very naughty in how they work and looks like they won't ever change.

Re: Break Your Mail Out of AOL

My wife signed us up to AOL several years ago the first time because compuserv was so terrible and the second time because our experience of NTL was so negative. Now AOL (UK) has been taken over by Virgin (formerly NTL). Now for the nightmare...my wife faced with the choice of saving emails on aol or pc has always chosen to save to pc. In order to access saved emails you have to be in the appropriate user name. You can only change user name when you are online. We can no longer go online with the aol software and so she cannot access her saved emails. Neither the technical help at virgin nor at aol (they don't actually understand much english) have any idea what to do. Can anybody help? Please.

I was under the impression that AOL(UK) was owned by the Carphone Warehouse. However, according to this NTL did a deal with AOL a few years ago to supply a cable connection to some AOL customers. Virgin Media have now decided to take it over properly. Are you one of the 8000 customers affected by this change?

If you are does this link help in any way?

Re: Break Your Mail Out of AOL

Thanks for the link. At the very least it's given me somewhere else to look for help as neither aol nor virgin appear to have anyone with the technical nous to help. Anyone know what sky broadband is like? Thanks again for the link.

Rory
