How do I turn off Outlook's automatic checking?

Hello. I installed the free edition of MailWasher yesterday and and slowly getting to understand how it works
I just received their start-up email today and I see I have to turn off the automatic checking thingy in Outlook Express. I need to do this because when I haven't got MailWasher open new emails are still going direct to Outlook. I've looked but can't see where I turn the automatic checking off. Can someone help?

In Outlook click on tools > options > under the "general" tab , untick Send and receive messages at startup and Check for new messages every ( ) minute(s) > apply > OK.
