Disappearing emails

Hi
I'm using Outlook Express 6 and it normally works fine but just occasionally it says that its downloading emails but they never appear in the inbox. I'm using Commodo firewall, but don't think its that as this was happening before I installed Commodo. I've disabled my spam filter - Spamihilator - but its still happening.
Any ideas?
