How Do I Unsubscribe Messenger

Please can anyone help me im tearing my hair out I want to shut down an old name on messenger as I have a new one and simply wish to cancel the old.
Someone told me by not signing on it will delete after a set period of time is this true.
I have got to one page where it says cancel membership but it will never let me do it.
Any info will be very gratefully recieved and maybe even rewarded.

Assuming you are talking about a Hotmail account. Just by Googling "close hotmail account", most of the links seem to suggest that after a period of inactivity, your account will be closed.
Have a look Here where there is also a link to close your account manually.
