delete outlook express program from my computer

Hi---I'm having trouble w/outlook express 6 so I decided to delete it. When I go thru window's explorer and delete I get a warning that other programs are or may be dependent on it. Is there a way I can safely delete outlook express without disturbing other programs??
Thank You

Re: delete outlook express program from my computer

It is theoretically possible to remove OE from your computer but it is a long complex procedure that involves renaming several files and folders followed by numerous changes to the registry. It is a sure way to mess up your PC big time but if you're sure you want to do it have a look at this.

On the other hand you could tell us what you think is wrong with OE6 and we'll fix it.

Re: delete outlook express program from my computer

Hi greysts---thank you SO much for your speedy reply---WOW!! after reading your post I've lost all desire to delete Outlook Express. My problem is that when I'm viewing my msgs after about 3 emails I get the msg "sorry, this msg cannot be displayed" or something like that---I read online somewhere that Microsoft has done away w/o.e. so I just figured I'd take it off my computer. I have downloaded Live Mail & so far its ok---do you have a fix for OE6 ?? I tried numerous ones (suggestions I got off the search "fix outlook express 6"---and none of them has worked. Thanks again for any help.

Re: delete outlook express program from my computer

Outlook Express has been renamed Windows Mail under Vista but to all intents and purposes it's exactly the same as OE.

The problem with OE may well be linked to a problem with a particular email that is blocking your inbox. Who is your Internet Service Provider?

Re: delete outlook express program from my computer

hello OUT I find that if you go into ADD/REMOVE and look to left handside you will see an option to change windows progs left click then look to left side and left click windows components, scroll down until you see O/E then choose to take out the tick and return desktop then restart.all being well you should not see O/E in your programs list. regards WHIZZER1. hope this helps.

Re: delete outlook express program from my computer

That doesn't actually remove Outlook Express from your computer, it simply stops it displaying on the Start, All Programs list. The programme is still available on the PC, it just makes it a bit more difficult to find.
