MS Outlook help needed please

Hi

I have just changed email programs from MS Outlook Express 6 to Outlook, and while it is doubtless more reliable, it doesn't seem half as thorough, or quick as OE. There are various things that I can't seem to configure (despite having futiley combed the help section) and was wondering if anyone could please help me?

Firstly, is there a way to keep Bcc on the blank email screen instead of going into the address book? I'm terrified I'll cc something by mistake!

Is there a way of putting multiple email addresses in a dropdown 'from' menu instead of having to always click on accounts to change the sender?

How do you request a read receipt?... or indeed can you?

How do I stop the signature automatically appearing on an email?

I was told by the help section that you could delete messages when you had archived them, to free up space, yet despite trying to do this, my inbox is still jam packed. How can I do this please, without having to sit there pressing the delete button for hours on end?

Lastly, I saw on a friend's outlook, that they had set up their mailboxes with headers as to when the mail was received... eg: received today, and then a list of emails, received yesterday / on 24/9/06 etc. How do I set this up please?

Pardon my ignorance but I am a technophobe! Any help or advice gratefully received

Re: MS Outlook help needed please... PS

Is there also a way of enabling predictive mode when typing in email addresses in the to box, rather than always having to go into the address book?

Re: MS Outlook help needed please... PS

Dealing with your last post first:

On the Tools menu > Options > Email Options > Advanced Email Options > Under 'When sending a message' clear the 'Suggest names while completing To, Cc, and Bcc fields' check box.

To keep the Bcc on the blank mail page > Click the arrow to the right of the Options button > Click Bcc.

To request a read receipt > Tools > Options > Email Options > Tracking Options > Your choice.

Stopping Signature sending > Tools Options > Mail Format > Select an account > Signature for new messages > None > Repeat for each account.

To delete messages in bulk, Open the folder in question > Edit on Menu Bar > Select all > Delete.
If you want them permanently deleting, press the shift key at the same time as the delete key.

Setting up mailboxes with headers . . . . etc > Whilst in Outlook > View > Arrange By > Current View > Customize current view > Fields > Add or remove entries > Use the move tabs to position them.
You can short cut this action by Right clicking in an existing Field > Customize current view > Etc.

Hope this is of some help.

To add, depending on which email editor you use, ie Word or Outlooks own, some of the answers can be slightly different.

Not quite sure what you mean by: 'putting multiple email addresses in a drop down 'from' menu'. You would still have to select each one from the menu as you do in the accounts tab.

Re: MS Outlook help needed please

Thank you for your really sensible advice, Fusion, which was brilliant and very much appreciated. However, I do not sadly seem to have an "arrange by" tab in my view menu, and instead of one header for each day, with all the received/sent/whatever messages listed underneath, I now have a header for each email which I have to click on a plus button to open. This is sort of a result but not as my friend has. How can I set up a heading for a group of messages, rather than for each please anybody?

Is there also a way to bulk delete messages received after a certain date rather than an entire mailbox?

Thanks in anticipation

Re: MS Outlook help needed please

What version of Outlook are you using?

There is so much customization that can be done in Outlook, it's difficult at times to picture what you already have showing and what route to take.
When I first started using Outlook, opposed the Outlook Express, it was a big learning curve. I used to press every tab available to see what each does. At times, and even now, not remembering how I got where, and by what menu.

Re the 'No Arrange By' in the View tab:

Right click on View > Customize > Commands. Can you see 'View' in the right pane?

ps . . . I find the Help section on the Menu Bar, or press F1 most helpful. Input your query in the 'Search for' > Search, and in the next help window, select 'Microsoft Office Online' > Search. You obviously need to be connected to take advantage of the extra content to view.
