problem opening attachments
|

i sometimes get emails with attachments and when i click on them to open them i just get a load of hieroglyphics and sybols,o use windows ME,can anyone help please?

It very much depends on what the attachments are. What file extension do they have (.txt, .htm etc..)?

What we need to know is the attachment file type. To know that we need to have the filename extension. When you get the file it should have a name in the form "Abigfile.xxx" and it is the xxx in the example file name that we are after.

The .doc file is a Microsoft Word document and the .pps file is a Microsoft PowerPoint Slideshow file. To view and edit the files you will need to buy the two pieces of software (not cheap). To view (but not edit) the Word document you can download a viewer from here. This viewer will allow you to look at PowerPoint files.

Just to mention that Microsoft Office is expensive.
Open Office.org is a superb piece of software and will allow you to open, edit and create all these office files. Best of all it's free. It really is a top notch piece of software.
Others on this forum use it and I've never heard a bad word about it. The only drawback is thats it's a huge download and I mean huge (63.5Mb).
