Messenger Login problem

I have installed the lastest version of Messenger on my new computer. I gave my old one to a friend, but forgot to uninstall Messenger before I gave it to her. When she started using it and went online it automatically logged me into Messenger. She realised this and immediately uninstalled Messenger from that PC.
However, ever since then, when I try to log on to Messenger on my new one, it always logs me in for a fraction of a second, then logs me out and gives me a message saying it has logged me out because I am logged in on another machine.
Clearly I am not! Not unless uninstalling it on my old PC didn't work and just looks like it did. I know my friend only goes online in the evenings, yet I am getting this message at all times of the day and night so I don't think it coincides with my old PC being online.
If I then try to log on a 2nd time it logs me in fine and keeps me logged in. It's just getting very irritating having to do it twice every time.
Any clues? Anyone else getting this?

Re: Messenger Login problem

Ask your friend to go to Control Panel, then User Accounts. Then click on her user name and then go to 'Manage my network passwords'. It's here where she can delete the MSN login names.

But my friend has completely deleted MSN Messenger program from her computer now. It doesn't appear anywhere!

Re: Messenger Login problem

Please still ask her to follow my instructions in case your MSN name is listed. It may be that Windows Messenger is starting up on her computer with your name without her realising it (Windows Messenger is different to MSN Messenger).

Re: Messenger Login problem

Oh blimey, I didn't know there was any such thing as Windows Messenger - only heard of MSN Messenger. I'll get her to search for anything called Windows Messenger on the hard drive.
Thanks.

Re: Messenger Login problem

You can find Windows Messenger by going to Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and clicking on Add/Remove Windows Components on the left hand side. If there's a tick next to Windows Messenger, remove it and follow the prompts. Maybe that'll solve your problem.
Madeline.
To err is human; to foul things up totally, you need a computer.

It might also be that your own computer is automatically signing you into Windows Messenger, which is what is signing you out of MSN Messenger, or vice versa.

Re: Messenger Login problem

Well, I have searched for Windows Messenger on my computer and it doesn't appear anywhere, so hopefully my friend will find it on my old PC, uninstall it and sort out the problem. Oddly I found that when I looked for MSN Messenger on Add/Remove Programs it was there, but it said "Used Rarely". This seems somewhat odd given that I log on to it 2 or 3 times a day.
