Can't open e-mail account - log on problem
|
|
I've suddenly found my e-mail account won't open. I get a logon box with my user name and password filled in,but when I click "OK" I get an error message saying my password was rejected and the account is undergoing maintenance - try again in a few minutes. I've done this, and rebooted, several times but to no avail. I can open Internet Explorer, so i's not a problem with the connection, just e-mail.
Strangely, the other e-mail accounts on my PC open up OK!
I'm using OE6 and Windows XP Home edition.
If anyone has any ideas which will save me having to phone up the dreaded NTL "help" line (ho ho), I'd be v. grateful

It may be that the NTL email server was down when you tried as this has happened to me many a time! NTL's email does often play up unfortunately - the only downside to their service imho. Are the other email accounts you have non-NTL ones?

No, the other e-mail accounts are all with NTL as well, which is what's puzzling me. There doesn't seem to be a problem with connectivity, because I can use Internet Explorer without problems - for some reason, it seems to have picked on my e-mail account and left the others alone!

Hmmm puzzling, I can only think that some accounts are on different servers, hence the maintenance message you received. Sorry I can't suggest anything else, hopefully someone else can come up with another suggestion.

Further update - just tried to access my e-mail account from work using NTL's webmail facility, but it keeps telling me to retry. I can access other NTL e-mail accounts via webmail, though.
Does this help? Maybe this means that somehow my e-mail account has been deregistered or deleted?

Does sound like a phone call to NTL is required! Don't understand why you're worried about doing that - I would first try their freephone number on 0800 052 2000 - there's a helpline there too! I've always had friendly and helpful advice, even from the call centre in India. Good luck and please let us know how you get on!

Looks like I'll have to do that. Thanks for the freephone number - that'll ease the pain a bit! The number they gave me when I signed up is some extortionate rate job which racks up ludicrous bills for the privilege of being sent round in circles by some pond life know-nothing in Wales somewhere! I'd never use the words "NTL", "friendly" and "helpful" in the same sentence ...
There, I feel better for that .....

Good luck! Do you have NTL as your telephone provider? If so, calls to the call centre in India are charged as for a "normal" phone call, going from my own experience.

There is on going maintenance with the e-mail accounts read here. This is from a 'sticky' from another part of the WU forum under ISP's, is very useful.

Yep, thanks for that - it definitely wasn't posted earlier when I was tearing my hair out and uttering a few choice comments! Bet that it'll be back on by the time I get home .....

Work has been on going since 6th June, first time my e-mail went off I spent ages trying to find out what was causing it, now I don't bother, just assume it's them!
