on an 0900 number by any chance. Where did they get your address and did the card actually come from eBay?

EBay is currently laying it heavy on with PayPal in the sense that ALL listings will soon HAVE to have PayPal as an option and some will have to have nothing but PayPal.
That would seem to indicate that this sort of promotion is on the cards, and they are more likely to send it out as an encouragement to use PayPal than anything else.
IF the invitation is a code for PayPal then you should be able to use it no problems. Buy off someone who takes PayPal, and at the payment screen you will see a box for entering a code. Enter it and it will take money off the total - but the seller will get full payment, PayPal meet the value of the code.
I've had the odd one off PayPal and eBay in the past, usually via email, but because it is just a word code that you enter in PayPal, there should be no security risk.
My advice, use it whilst you've got it. So if you want that 'something' but don't want to pay the full price, now you have a tenner off!

Sorry didn't get chance to answer the query, but as you have discovered it can be used as part payment. I once fluffed up and used a £10 voucher on a £7.50 item - no change given........................
When eBay gives something away, extend both arms, grip tightly and TAKE!!!!

Nice.
VERY occaisonally, I get the odd code through. I do use two eBay IDs, one for selling as a business and one for personal (it's all above board - I even checked it out with eBay before opening the second one - you need seperate email etc), and sometimes it can be interesting to see that I get offered free listing or a coupon on the ID where I have very little activity, and yet nothing on the main one.
As mentioned, it can just be eBay/PayPal encouraging you to buy. And also as mentioned, you might as well take what's offered.

woooooooooo got a £5 voucher from eBay today

Re: eBay Stars

That means I can probably expect mine in three/four weeks!
Spend it wisely my friend, but quickly!
I left mine to the last minute - it worked, but annoyingly the first person I bought off took his PayPal payment through some sort of system that would not allow the voucher! Bought something I wanted anyway, but made two purchases in the end to get it to work.

I must have been one of the lucky ones, I got a £20 off voucher for a £50 spend, quite handy seeing as I was looking at a buy-it-now PDA for £50. I hope that ebay pick up these discounts for the sellers, wouldn't want to see them out of pocket.

You lucky devil!
Mind, all the costs are covered by eBay/PayPal. The seller never really knows - I have had a couple buy off me and use them and I only knew when they emailed me to ask if all was okay.

Well, it means my H2210 only cost £30 all in all with the discount voucher, the mapping software and key came with the PDA. The bluetooth GPS receiver cost £20. So fifty squid has enabled me to procure a fully functional Satnav system, and I cannot complain about that.
