10p Listing Day Thursday 14th June - Auction Only

Errr.....yeah, as it says in the title!

For some reason eBay are targetting the auction format as they say it makes it more 'exciting' for the buyer! I'm not sure how I feel as a seller, but there you go. No stupid low starting price needed, unless you want to.

Remember you can get 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 days listings so you are looking at them finishing on Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursdays and Sunday again.

Couple of tips. Don't just list any time of day. THINK about when you get time to look. Is it 6pm to 8pm, or 8pm to 10pm and plan them.

I just recently had a few that I started really late and the consequence of that was either staying up to pack stuff or doing it the next day, so look for times that will suit you.

Remember to make it worthwhile in 99% of cases you probably need a piccie, so that's another 15p.

Thanks for that. I usually have my stuff finish about 9pm on a weekday, but not on a Saturday as lots of people go out on a Saturday night(except me that is). Don't have to worry about packing stuff up straight away though, as I don't take paypal.

HArd to say what days are good and bad to finish on. We have listings AND an eBay shop and had a lot of Buy Nows yesterday - Monday. Figure it must be folks back at work or mums/dads getting the PC back after the kids have been on it all weekend.

If you don't take PayPal, consider Google Checkout - no fees until the end of 2007 and dead easy to use for you and the customer. We now send an eBay invoice AND a Google Invoice when we get a sale. Most still use PayPal, but Google is getting a look in.

I have a Google account and have registered with Checkout, but haven't actually used it yet.

How do you go about receiving payments?

The Google Checkout site is a bit bare bones, but sending an invoice is easy peasy when you get used to it.

Click on the Settings tab and then click on Send An Invoice on the left side. You just need an email address (customer's), a name to address the customer by (use the eBay name if you have nothing else), a nice big message box to explain to the customer what it is and then a price and a description bit. In price REMEMBER to ADD the postage costs (so an item that is £20 and £5 postage goes in as £25 - stupid, I know, but easy to make an error) and in description I copy and paste from the eBay listing that they have bought to make sure I get title and eBay number in.

Just had a payment in tonight and with Google you can choose to have them automatically check and charge the customers card or they check it and then you have to click CHARGE. I set my preference to me clicking the Charge button as I also use it on our website and it is for the very rare chance that what someone buys off the website is no longer available, otherwise I'd set it to automatically do it.

Only bug I have had is someone paid me last night but had no confirmation email - first error yet - but I did check it each day so picked it up myself.

Saved me about £2.50 in PayPal tonight so well chuffed.

When payment is through and cleared (usually instant) you can mark it as paid on eBay and email the buyer to confirm.
