Online building with good forum software

Hi
I am looking to build a website with a forum, I have no real technical experience but am happy to use online building software e.g mr site, unfortunately I haven't found that provides a good forum. I want the forum to run in the main site, no ads but it must have some advanced options like informing users that a post has been replied to etc etc. Mr Site does not allow for this.
Can anybody suggest a company or software, that can do these things while allowing me to build and manage the whole site over the net.
I like the forum on this (webuser) site allowing me to add faces etc etc, what type of forum is this(sorry for my ignorance!!) Something like this would be ideal, how do i get one.

Find a hosting company that offers the Fantastico script installer. There are a couple of forums available (SMF being my choice), also site builders, CMS, etc., all automatically installed.

As long as your host supports php and a database e.g. mysql then there are various forum software packages.
I use phpbb - its simple to use and well documented.
Personally I think one flaw in the webuser forum is that it doesnt move posts to the top when they are replied to, which means interesting topics slide down and onto page 2 fairly quickly rather than staying near the top as people reply. Also replies get missed if they are on threads other than those on page 1.

It does, but only if you've set it to do so in the user options...

Ahhh thanks for that TFC. Never knew that was there as I like most users here I suspect never look at those settings. Might be better if the last post date was the default sort order though which would bring it into line with just about every other website forum (but thats just my opinion).

Well, maybe. But I, like many others, dive straight into user options whenever I join a forum...

I'd say from my experience that this is not true. I run a very successful vBulletin forum and I see very few users editing their options.

I had no idea the option was their either, and I'd noticed it missing on many occasions. I too think it should be set by default.

Yes I also agree with this
wow all the newly replied to topics are nice and easy to follow. Maybe there should be a vote on this

As do I, along with PHPBB & SMF. Clearly our experiences are many and various, and we speak as we find - I tend to notice that drive-by posters tend not to but, generally, regulars do often make the effort.
Alas, this software is perhaps the least user/admin friendly I have to deal with, and whilst I agree it would be preferable as a default setting it isn't an available global admin option.

Thanks for the help, can anybody suggest a Mr Site type software that includes PHPBB, looking at the reviews on this site for web design
