IE - unable to open extra browser window

Having a weird problem. Though able to use IE6, when it comes to opening new browser windows e.g. posting to an MSN Group or just opening a new window from a link, I just get a blank transparent window.
Same when trying to open a link from an Email in Outlook Express. Adding to the confusion - the button in the taskbar of a working window has the older "2D" IE5 icon, while a new 'non-opening' window has the newer "3D" icon.
I've searched the Microsoft support forums and followed the advice found at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q281679 and also followed some advice to run "regsvr32 urlmon.dll" to no avail. Anybody come across this before?
I've also tried uninstalling and re-installing IE6, trying the "Restore previous Windows configuration" and also the so-called 'repair' function in Add/Remove Programs.

I'm using Win98, IE6 (with SP1).

I'm using Mozilla at the moment but, while it's not bad, it does some strange things!

Re: IE - unable to open extra browser window

Wow - that was quick! Thanks for that, Puta! Unfortunately, yes, I have tried the 'resolutions' shown on that page, with no luck. The only thing I may have done wrong was to not close all programs before doing the 'Start | Run ' things, so I'll have another go once I've printed that off. Btw, I'm using Mozilla as a stop-gap and I must say I'm fairly impressed with most that I've seen, though it does get a bit unnecessarily techy in some areas. Thanks again.
