Re: ie

I'm sorry but I don't understand your question. Are you saying you cannot find your own website through the search engines? If so (i) Have you submitted it (ii) it can take up to a year to get a listing (iii) have you entered meta words (iv) have you given the page a searchable title. AND! that is just for starters.

open internet explorer click on tools click on internet options, on the home pagw high-lite the address and type in the address you want as your home page e.g. www.google.co.uk. click on use current' and that should be your home page.

In my experience.... Google ....is by far the best.
Perhaps your not using it right!

Re: ie

me too google is the best, of course it depends what exactly your after from your home page, i want it to load quick, and if necessary give me a search facility. and google does that.
if i had known i would live this long, i would have taken better care of myself.

Re: ie

Google is the best by a long way.

I don't understand the part about not getting results unless you type the whole address. Surely if you know the address of a site then you don't need the search engine.

Re: ie

If you want the search to be more word specific then enclose it with quotes. "webuser".

If I wanted to search for watercolour forums and typed it as such I would get results all matches that contained watercolour and/or forums, meaning I could get any site that had a forum and not just watercolour forums. Now if I typed it as "watercolour forums" I would get results with watercolour forums together. So I would have more accurate results.

Get the idea?

Re: ie

You could download Trust Toolbar from www.trusttoolbar.com/support/ (must learn how to establish link!). This toolbar is permanently added to your existing toolbars so long as you are using Internet Explorer. You enter a key word, phrase et in Search box and it brings back results from Google, then you can click on to the following other search engines: Trustedweb, Lycos, Yahoo, MSN, Excite or Alta Vista to see what results they come up with.It also has a box whixh shows the parent company and origin of the web page you are viewing. Worth having a look at ... even through the bottom of an emptying glass of the amber nectar!!

Re: ie

Whoa! Reading your posting again. Have you installed HOTBAR on your PC? If so there's your problem. I can't remember but I think HOTBAR installs their own Search Engine called something like Results Master and it is indeed a whole load of Poo. Incidentally, be warned, HOTBAR looks cool but you are inviting a whole load of Spyware on your PC if you install it.

Re: ie

Go to this site, and download 'Hijack This!'.

Unzip it, launch Hijack This, then press Scan, and press Save Log

This will generate a text file that will list all running processes, all applications that are loaded automatically when you start Windows, and more.

open that file
Go to Edit | Select all
Now click Edit | copy to copy it
Come back to web user, Right Click and paste its contents here

Run Hijack this scan again
You should see some boxes to the left of the list
Click on the relevant box to put a tick in it
Click Fix checked at the bottom

Re: ie

Another point. Someone asked further up the thread whether you're using Google (and others) properly.

If you know the URL, type it in the address bar at the top of IE and you'll go straight there. If you're searching for something and don't know the URL, type whatever you're looking for in Google's search window.

You probably know that already, but sometimes it pays to go for the obvious. Not every new user gets it right first time. These computer type things do like to complicate things whenever possible.
