explorer problem

I have windows XP PRO and I.E.6 and i'm on N.T.L World.com Broadband cable modem.
Now for some reason since saturday i couldnt access yahoo profiles in chat rooms someone advised me to go to internet options /connections/LAN settings tick the proxy server and use the address 80.1.224.4 and port 8080 which i did an lo an behold it solved the problem and i could once again access yahoo profiles
then today i went to type in something in my I.E browser bar and it came back with the below statement which i have copied and pasted below along with the yahoo fault
if i remove the proxy server tick i can access the internet via the browser and not yahoo but if i tick it i cannot access any web sites etc other than whats in my favourites list. Now for some reason this was all working fine prior to saturday and i havent done anything or removed anything or added anything so anyone have any ideas?
i have also done hijack this log too
cheers giddy

Re: explorer problem

It does a number of security updates and fixes, actually it virtually replaces your current version of XP
