DOWNLOADING AND STARTING FIREFOX

Everybody says Firefox 2 is a great browser and more secure than IE which is probably the starting point for all web browsers.
Is there a site that will guide me through the process of
downloading Firefox
Installing it
making it my default browser
BUT
Can I keep IE in the background, just in case something goes wrong with Firefox
