Whenever I click on the IE7 icon on my desktop or in my Quick Launch toolbar, I get a Microsoft Internet Explorer dialogue box come up twice, which says: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Cannot find 'file:///C:/Program%20Files/AOL%20Toolbar/welcome.html'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct'. -------------------------------------------------------------------- After I've closed these 2 dialogue boxes, Internet Explorerer finally opens properly at my home page. Please can someone tell me how to get rid of these messages? |

Quote: The above syntax is incorrect or your transcription is wrong, hence the error message. It looks as though you have ’picked up’ two invalid entries in your home page of IE7. Check the contents of the home page. |

Hi BurrWalnut, Thanks for replying. I've triple-checked every character in the error message and it's exactly as stated, including the 3 forward slashes. My home page is BBC News and it displays perfectly. Any further suggestions, please? I'd particularly like to know where I should go to on my PC so I can delete the error messages. I've run my PC's search facility to look in all files, folders, subfolders and 'hidden stuff' but nothing is showing up. |

I'm suggesting you have 3 websites as your 'home page'. Click on the down arrow next to the 'house' and let the mouse pointer hover over 'Remove'. How many pages do you have? |

BurrWalnut, when I click on the the black triangle to the right of the little house, a drop down box gives a 3-line message that says: BBC NEWS News Front Page Add or Change Home Page... Remove |

If there is only the BBC page there you must have 'caught' something, so I suggest you go to the HiJackThis section of the forum, read the instructions and post a log. To make absolutely sure, go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General Tab and confirm that only the BBC is showing as a home tab. |

Hello again BurrWalnut, There's definitely only the BBC News page showing up in Control/InternetOptions/General/HomePage. I've ran AVG Anti-Virus/Ad-Aware/F-SecureOnline/CCleaner/RootKitScanner:- No nasties showing up, thank goodness, and as I'm always vigilent about keeping my security functions updated on a daily basis, I think it's unlikely I've picked up anything. However, when I upgraded recently from AOL 9.0 to AOL VR, the ISP software put a toolbar in IE7, which I found intrusive and tried to delete from the 'Add/Remove Progs' section in the Control Panel. I think now that the problem I'm experiencing at IE7 start-up, is caused by the AOL 2.0 toolbar not having uninstalled completely. Perhaps I'd better run my problem through the AOL Tech message boards. BurrW, thanks a million for your time and trouble in trying to help me. Appreciatively, A-M |

Actually, I recognised the AOL toolbar as a legitimate program but was thrown by the forward slashes and immediately (wrongly) thought it was some form of hijack. |
