Problem with IE Favourites

I seem to have a problem adding new sites to my list of favourites, or indeed changing the existing list in any way. When i try I get an 'unable to create xxx, unspecified error' message.

My PC got repaired recently, and I had to download all my files and favourites etc from Mozy.com. I suspect the problem is somehow linked to the restore, but I'm not sure how.

Can anyone help/advise? Thanks!!

Re: Problem with IE Favourites

Too little information provided to be certain what's causing this behaviour. My wild guess is that you might have some favourite with non-English character set (Japanese? Chinese? Eastern European?) that got corrupted while syncing. However, this is just a wild guess :-) Can you inspect your list of favourites one by one? On the other hand, is it possible your favourite folder is read-only? Sure sounds like that... You can access your favorites folder using the path C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Favorites (assuming C: is the drive where Windows resides, and you're using XP).

You were right- folder set to read only! Hopefully that will fix it

Re: Problem with IE Favourites

Still having problems. The exact problem is that when I try and add a web-site to existing sub-folders in favourites, e.g. TheFilter.com I get the following error message:-

'Unable to Create 'The Filter'- Unspecified Error'

Yet if I add it to the general favourites category, it works.

I think this is due to the fact that I had to restore lots of files on my PC recently, including all the favourites sub-folders.

I have removed the 'read only' status of each file within the bookmarks in each favourites sub-folder, but try as I might, I cannot seem to remove the 'read only' status of the (pre-existing) sub-folders and the overall favourites folder.

A google search suggests the problem also has something to do with permissions?
