Browser problem (IE)

I'm getting intermittent problems with internet explorer. For example, the star icon for favourites only works sporadically. If I close the browser down and start again it will work for a time but then nothing happens when I click it. Also, the back/forward buttons are not working properly.
Anybody got any ideas on what's happening?
