Squeezed page in Firefox

A 3cm tall grey bar or space has suddenly appeared at the bottom of any web page in Firefox. I have the task bar as normal (blue) then this grey thick bar, then the bar which shows what is happening - page load progress etc. The thick bar has a small red arrow pointing upwards on the left side which I can't move, highlight or anything. The full screen is selected and I can't stretch the window by pulling at the edges as it is completely open. This doesn't occur in IE7 by the way. Any ideas, please?

Re: Squeezed page in Firefox

That's usually caused by an incompatible extension. Have you installed any extra ones recently? If so try disabling it (them). Try starting Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode (shortcut in the Windows 'Start' menu). This disables themes and extensions. That should confirm that the problem is an extension. Check to see if there are any updates for them.

Go to: Tools > Add-ons > Select 'Extensions' > Click the 'Find Updates' button.

Re: Squeezed page in Firefox

Thank you very much, you are exactly right. In Firefox Safe Mode it was fine, so I disabled all the add-ons in normal mode and then enabled them one by one until I found the culprit. It was the Google Photos screensaver by the way. It had been working fine so I have uninstalled it and will re-install it to see if that helps. Thanks again for speedy help!
