security problem with firefox

switched on my computer this morning clicked onto firefox and the firefox homepage came up not my usual homepage bbc.co.uk.
went to check my ebay a box came up something like 'Enscription(sp) security risk other people might see what you look at etc'

whats going on

Has the problem persisted? Could the browser have updated? This will cause a different page to show the first time the browser is started. Also have a close look in the Options to make sure the BBC site is the only page listed.

I don't know what the security message would be about but you could look at 'Tools > Options > Advanced > Encryption' to make sure both Protocol boxes there are ticked.

The page you were diverted to at least wasn't anything nasty so maybe the problem is (was) a hiccup for a reason other than malware having been picked up. Nonetheless, a good scan of the system with whatever security programs are installed might be a good thing to do.

i did a system restore and everything was fine (did a adware scan as well) but now when i close firefox the box which contains 'clean cookies' etc doesn't appear.
whats happened to it ?

You'll need to adjust the settings. Open Firefox and click on tools > options > privacy > under the private data settings place a tick in the boxes....."always clear my private data when i close Firefox" and "ask me before cleaning private data" > OK.
