Browser window goes small when clicking a link

On the one particular site I visit, when I click to go into the smilies window, the link opens in another tab, but then my browser window goes small. It has only just started happening, I have looked at the settings and can't figure out why it's doing this. here is a screenshot.

I am using the latest version of FF.

thanks in advance

Re: Browser window goes small when clicking a link

That's very weird and I can't figure out why it's happening. I went to that site, then to their forum and clicked on "Smilies"; it opened in a new tab and my browser window stayed full size. I don't think it can be a problem with the site, or surely I'd have had the same thing happen, even though I wasn't logged in. Is anyone else there experiencing the same difficulty? If not, I'd say it's a problem with Firefox. If you right-click on your FF icon, then on Properties, what does it say by 'Run' - Normal Window, Maximised or Minimised? If it's 'Normal', try setting it to 'Maximised' and see if that helps.

Madeline.

Sorry Madeline, but what Firefox icon do you mean?

The one on your Quick Launch bar, or Desktop or wherever you click on it to open Firefox!

Re: Browser window goes small when clicking a link

Hi Madeline.

Did what you said via the Start menu, as I open FF via Rocketdock. It was set at Normal, so I changed it to maximised and it hasn't made any difference.

I noticed yesterday, it did the same thing on the laptop as well.

We have a little support section on that particular site, so I have posted it in there to see if anyone else is having the same problem.

Re: Browser window goes small when clicking a link

Try disabling JavaScript to see if that stops the window resizing. If it does:

* Go to: Menu > Tools > Options > Content > Advanced (options for JavaScript).
* Untick, 'Move or resize existing windows'.

See how it behaves then. You may have to restart Firefox before settings changes have an effect.

Many thanks.

Have unticked the box and that seems to have done the trick.

Re: Browser window goes small when clicking a link

I wonder if what may be happening is that the link would normally open in a pop-up window of a size specified by JavaScript in the web page. However, if Firefox is set to open new windows in tabs, it will do so but the browser window might be forced to change to the size the pop-up window would have been ...I think that's what I mean to say . Just a theory anyway.

Re: Browser window goes small when clicking a link

Mart, you're right. That sometimes happens to me when I get a popup in a tab. I then get all the tabs in a small window which is a right pain. It tends to happen a lot with the price comparison sites when I click on a link.

Re: Browser window goes small when clicking a link

Glad to know you're sorted. Just to be on the safe side, I had a look in Options and the box mart mentioned was already unticked in mine. If anyone else on that other site is having the same difficulty, at least you'll be able to tell them how to fix it!

Madeline.
