Scary problems with Firefox....

I have been recently having trouble with my computer resetting.
At first I thought it was due to a virus or other nasties on my machine.
My virus scan came up clean & although I had some spyware which I managed to get rid of after posting a HJT log my machine still kept resetting and kept getting worse.
The only thing I could narrow it down to was something to do with browsing. Every time I used firefox my machine would reset. Not being sure if the programme could be causing the problem my last ditch attempt was to visit mozilla forums to see if they could offer any help.
To my surprise, Firefox itself WAS responsible! aparantly the latest version 1.02.

I mean if they know this to be true, then why isn't it fixed??
I have tried going back to 1.01 but still had the same prolems. I have lost count of the number of times I have uninstalled & reinstalled and lost most of my settings.
Even tried a 'nightly' of the next build 1.03. and it's not been fixed.
Don't get me wrong I am a HUGE fan of the Thunderbird & the Firefox browser & would choose it any day over I.E. the enhancement it has made to my browsing is unreal, like a different internet experience.
BUT I have to admit to being a tad annoyed that the best advice they could give is to clean out my case for dust etc. and get a motherboard temp monitor?
Incedently my brother in law has installed firefox 1.02 on his new machine & that is causing him restarts too....
Come on Mozilla Pull you socks up, I expected better than that from your 'superior' browser.
I just wanted to make other firefox users aware, my friend was just about to update to version 1.02 that same day & is expecting delivery of a new second machine, but I told him not to bother.
My brother in law has now done away with it all together.
There are many handy extentions, features & treasures within this programme........
But I too am slowly loosing faith........
(any other I.E. alternatives?)

Are you sure that it's Firefox causing your CPU to run at 100% all the time? I have the graph running whilst typing this response and sending it to WU for check and mine never gets above 50%. What else have you got running in the background?
Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?

It is quite resource hungry. I just opened IE and Firefox on this thread. Firefox is running at 52,000K, IE 23,000K.

I'm running Maxthon with 12 individual tabs opened for a sum total of 47,000kb.
Avg antivirus-Sygate personal firewall-Ad-aware-Spybot Search & Destroy-SpywareGuard-SpywareBlaster-HijackThis-CWShredder-TrojanScan-Housecall-Pop-Up Stopper-Windows update-Maxthon

Yep it's down to firefox all right, I've even tried closing everything else.
I asked for help on the firefox forum & they said it was Firefox too.
What about the effect on my brother in laws new machine?
I am now using Maxthon again. used before firefox. improved alot since then.
Not resetting my machine either.

This sounds more of a conflict between firefox and something else on your machines. I think that if was a direct problem with firefox alone, a lot more people will be complaining.
It certainly doesn't eat up my resources. I've got 6 tabs open now and only consuming 42,456K.

I'm using Maxthon at the moment, but I've never had your problem when running Firefox 1.0.2.

Just a query..can you change sites just by running your mouse over each tab in Maxthon, or do you have to click to change?
The sliding your mouse over sites to view them is one of my favourite things in Firefox.

I don't know, I haven't come across it in Maxthon. Maybe ourstanley knows, he seems to know a lot about Maxthon. I like that facility in Firefox too, although I suppose having to click isn't much extra effort really.

Nowt up to now but suggestions have been made on the support forum for future releases.

It would be nice to have that facility in Maxthon. On the other hand, it's easy to end up on the wrong page if you're not careful!
