aol broadband reverting back to dialup

a friend has phoned and asked if i can go over and look at their computer. the problem they have is that even though they have BB it keeps reverting back to dial up. they had this problem before, i tried to sort it before but i got nowhere with it but i have forgotten what to do. im pretty sure it involved changing their aol sign in password within the settings of the router. whatever it was i had to do it meant i had to phone them. does anyone know why it does this?what i can do to sort it other than phone aol? and has this happened to anyone else on aol?

It can only revert to a dial-up connection if the PC has got a dial-up modem which in turn is connected to a normal telephone line using the correct cable. You can't get a dial-up connection through a broadband modem - one's analogue and the other is digital.

Temporary Respite till you remove the Dial up modem
Open Internet Options .by Right clicking on the Internet Explorer Icon on the Top of the Start list and choose Properties up and click the Connections tab
Change the setting to Never dial a connection then click on the Apply then the OK button to save and exit this page
Should be a bit more stable now?
Question, Is the Modem an external or an internal unit?
The external unit should be unplugged completely and B) The Software ininstalled ...Internal unit is basically removing the card When switched off (May need assistance to remove it from the Tower ?) Then an uninstall of the Modem software take 5 minutes Tops
