broadband confusion

I hope someone can help
this morning i recieved my monthly NTL phone bill and in it said
Cable modem access 300k £17.99 i'm sure i had upgraded to the 1mb pack
Does anyone know of any programs that can test the speed of my broadband connection so i can check whether it is 300k or 1mb

It's a little slow just now, my 2MB connection produced 1792kbps

hi im just wounderin if you could help me iv tryed to load my broadband on to my pc after doing a system clean and i sit all the way through the instalation cd then it says error cant find registry value can you help
