Question?

Is there a genius out there that will take a minute to help try and figure out if my BB connection is figured right? Only asking cos due to my ongoing problems with BT Yahoo and keeping a connection, things went a little pear shaped again and now i have some guy saying that what the last one i spoke to said was crap and that my settings are wrong. I made an excuse about not being infront of my PC and hung up. Quite frankly i dont trust them at all now- so if some nice soul would lend me their knowledge....

I imagine there are loads of peeps around here straining at the leash to help you. We needs lots of info first, of course. What variety of Windows are you using, whose your ISP and what type of ADSL modem are you using? Any history we should know about like what have you already been told to try? Is it a single PC or are you networking?

Are you sitting comfortably? I'm running XP on IE, just one PC, not networked in any way. On BT Yahoo BB 2meg. Speedtouch 330 modem.
Initially way back around 4 months ago when it all started, i was told there was a fault on the line, then told to try new filters, then told i needed a direct slave from the master socket, then new filters again, then to try a non DECT phone, then use a DECT phone but not an anolouge one, then to download the new Yahoo software which is where the next saga comes in. By the way, all the aforementioned had an effect for differing amounts of time.
Anyways, i downloads the new Yahoo software that isn't much different from the old one, looks slighty different but i cant see a huge difference. But then it threw out the BB connection. Wasn't there no sign of it wouldn't let me on period. So i phones them again, speaks to this guy who said i need more gain and it will be right. I said i aint got no connection how can this be right? He then says i have to uninstall the modem and re- install it. Only it wont let me do this, says it cannot find a file it needs to uninstall it- sorry i cant find the file name it gave me- and then this guy says he needs tio speak to technical support and someone will call me. They dont, i phoned them the next day and a guy talks me through connection wizard. Which is listed in my connections menu under dial up. Which worried me slighty but he said because it was set to " never dial a connection" it was right.
But i'm sure something aint right because i have to manually switch the connection on before i can open IE, and there is so much noise on the phone line. Actually, if the phone is in use then it looses connection, and within a minute or 2 of hanging up it allows you access again.
If you are still awake, or even following this! Please Help!!!! Whatever other info you need i can give, if you need screenshots i could probably do that too, just help!!!!!!!!!!!! Please!

I know it's going to be hard work but you need a visit from a BT engineer to sort our your phone line. Don't be put off when you phone them but insist that the noise on the line is unacceptable and that you are unable to use broadband effectively. The increase in gain would be good if you had a clean line but in your case increasing the gain will simply make the line noise worse.
One of the commonest faults on t/p lines is water ingress in one of the connection boxes between the outside and inside of your house. If you can get to it safely, see if you can take the lid off and have a look at the connections.
Get the phone line sorted and hopefully your BB troubles will go away.
