I have BT broadband (1.1Mb) using a voyager 100 modem and xp home on pc, problem is modem keeps diconnecting and shows as "training" (2 yellow arrows) instead of "healthy" (2 green) It then redials bt and connects. On a few occasions it has failed to connect at all BT advised me to switch off and dosconnect modem, reconnect and switch pc back on. This works initially but modem keeps cutting out and reconnecting. Anyone have similar problems or advice?? Cheers Keith |

Sounds like a problem with the line. Are you connected directly into the master socket or are you using an extension cable? If so, remove the cable and plug directly into the master socket. Don't forget to make sure there is a filter on all other extensions. |

I have 1 phone and 1 modem both with filters from extension I ran from main line, tried various combinations of connections but while doing so realised that sky box is also connected without filter, anyone know more about sky phone conn.? do I need to keep it in or is it for updates? Have removed sky conn and modem and sky both working ok, will see how it goes. Thanks for info. Keith |

you only need Sky connected to use the interactive features, or to order films etc. Otherwise it is ok to leave out. It will need a filter if you put it back in. |

As already suggested, the phone connection for a Sky box is simply for the Interactive features, it has no bearing on the operation of the box. However, there are two occasions where you are contractually obliged to have it connected to the phone: 1) With a subsidised (free) box, you are contractually obliged to have it connected to the phone for the first 12 months, asfter that you can unplug it. 2) Sky+ boxes, the Sky+ contract requires you to keep it PERMANENTLY connected to the phone, but again there's no technical reason for this, just that Sky want you to press the red button and send them money!. As an engineer, and a registered Sky installer, I would advise NOT leaving it plugged in to the phone, if you want to use the Interactive features, plug it in when you need it - and leave it unplugged at all other times. This is simply to prevent lightning damage, we see many digiboxes destroyed by lightning coming up the phone line - and it's obviously NOT covered by warranty. I'll repeat again - THERE'S NO TECHNICAL REASON FOR THE PHONE CONNECTION - despite the lies that Sky will tell you, even the 'technical' help line at Sky is manned by totally non-technical people. As dealers we get no better service from Sky either - we had a faulty Sky card (we're engineers, so we knew the card was faulty - and we'd tried the card in a different box, and a different card in this box) - Sky's 'technical' department told us to take the SCART lead out and blow on the pins?. |

Thanks for all the info everyone, modem is working without "disconnecting" at all, whether this is to do with sky box or BT working on line (now up to 1.1 Mb) I don't know. BT were not goiong to investigate problem unless I had ruled out internal wiring (cant blame them really) but not exactly helpful on phone. Have had sky for more than 1 year so no need to keep conn. Thanks again. Keith |

I have exactly the same diagnosis. Im on windows xp home edition, on a dell computer. BT Voyager 100 DSL modem. Keeps getting disconnected around 5minute mark. DSL light goes off, re-gains dsl, connect to internet and same happens after 4-5 minutes. May I ask what was the solution to this? |

Just a thought after a slight problem with BT today and having to reinstall my 205 Adsl router, seeing your post reminded me to check. Right click My Computer | Properties | Hardware | Device Manager | Network Adapters | BT Voyager 100 DSL modem (your pc) Click on it and select Power Management and make sure you remove the checkmark from Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power I've just had to remove this checkmark again. |

Sorry for the double post but this is strange. My internet lasts for so long, then d/c and every couple of mins after that. I disconnect modem, restart its fine, then does the same. What is this? |

Quote: I get exactly the same. I also have a DELL PC and am on BT Broadband (2 meg) with a voyager 100 and my internet is fine until about 8pm. After that it disconnects about every 5 minutes. |
