belkin 54g denies access to msn.com

I just bought the Belkin wireless 54g adsl modem/router. I'm on AOL so i put all that information into the router and connected to the net like that. Now i cannot gain access to certain websites I'm not sure what they all have in common but the most famous ones are www.belkin.com www.hotmail/msn/microsoft.com. I'm also running Norton internet security on the local computer- this is not causing the problems as i hae already turned it off to see. I have also tried everything with IE itself about secure sites cookies etc so it is definitely the router and i am unsure what to do about it and unable to go on the belkin website to see. Also MSN messenger will not work. If anyone does reply can you make it simple please I'm not the best with computers.

hopefully someone can help
cheers

Re: belkin 54g denies access to msn.com

Hello greenday, I also have a Belkin wireless 54g adsl modem router .but I am on Tiscali with np. From what I know about AOL this is typical of them they don’t like msn, hotmail or anything from Microsoft .they do all they can stop certain programs running on you’re computer that’s one of the reasons I never went with them and if you read more on the forms you will find more ppl in the same boat as you. I would not blame the Belkin modem as once they are setup they work fine.

Here is a link that mite help you with the set up of the modem

Have you updated the software in the router?, I installed a belkin wireless router at work, and while my computer could get anywhere some of the others couldn't get on some websites (Ebay was one!). A software update cured the problem completely, and is something you should check for as soon as you install the router.

Re: belkin 54g denies access to msn.com

hey greenday......i am also on aol....i had the same problem with my router...what you need to do is somehow find the MTU settings of your router..they will be on 1500..change it to either 1400 or 1492 and tht should do the trick...the mtu settings will be somewhere in the configuration of your router.....hope this helps..

Re: belkin 54g denies access to msn.com

its because aol is [****]...and uses some proxy crap...you need to change it to 1400 in my past experience to open secured websites.

Re: belkin 54g denies access to msn.com

I've started having a similar problem. I'm on Tiscali Broadband and can't get my mail from NTLWorld or to sites (www.ntlworld.com or webmail.ntlworld.com). When I go through Tiscali dial-up (or any of Freeserve or NTLWorld), the NTLWorld stuff works ok.

It only seems to have stopped in the last week - does any one know when Tiscali went from 1MB to 2MB? Could this have anything to do with it. I've tried adjusting MTU and it didnt seem to work.

Any help appreciated. Cheers

Re: belkin 54g denies access to msn.com

Do you still have an NTL World account? If you have closed it and transferred to Tiscali I would imagine NTL have closed your email account.

Re: belkin 54g denies access to msn.com

I've still got the NTLWorld account - it was a PAYG account when I was on dial up. When I am on broadband, I can't even get http://www.ntlworld.com or http://webmail.ntlworld.com to open up - I get 'Connection refused ...'.
I also have a LineOne PAYG (owned by Tiscali), and I can onto all NTLWorld sites/mail. It looks like my router is blocking NTLWorld.

I've gone through all the settings on the web router setup utility (including switching the router firewall off) and have had no joy.

I've got a work around in that I can use dial-up to get the missing mail, but as I've already paid for the broadband, then its not ideal.

Re: belkin 54g denies access to msn.com

I have Tiscali and a netgear wireless router. I wasso unable to access the ntlworld website a month or so back. then all of a sudden the problem fixed itself. Now i can't access the site www.visforvoltage.com. Yet i can access it via a web based proxy. I don't suspect its my router but it would be great if someone else with tiscali broadband could check this site to see if it works so i can rule out a problem with the router.

Thanks
Nick

Re: belkin 54g denies access to msn.com

Similar problems with a Belkin adsl2 wireless g router using Tiscali ISP in the UK. Could only get the router to connect by pppoe despite the isp saying they used pppoa. Connected via pppoe most websites worked but not msn, hotmail, messenger or the university of ulster website.

Eventually tracked it down and found the router would only connect via pppoa when the MTU rate was changed in the router settings from the default 1458 to 1400. Connects fine and shows all webpages and messenger.

Re: belkin 54g denies access to msn.com

Just got my Netgear adaptor set up (finally, after 2 weeks of phoning the support number) only to find, when I try to connect to the internet, 'error 403 - access denied, etc....' with wanadoo's website in the URL. I had only just reinstalled Windows XP so I don't know what page it thinks I was trying to access - it just seemed to appear for no reason. Can anyone give me a Noddy guide on how to get shot of it without disrupting my hard-found USB signal?
