Trying to install my Wanadoo wireless Livebox package last night, unfortunately when it came to plugging in the Inventel wireless adaptor into the computer via the USB my computer fails to recognise or find the driver needed to make the adaptor work. It's asking for a driver for the device named "cohiba 3887 rev 0" My computer (running Windows 98 SE) cannot find the driver on the installation software. Wanadoo support suggested it's a problem with the microchips on my computer and I need to take in back to where I bought it to have a diagnostic check on it!!! Anyone got any ideas or had a similar problem? Is there anywhere I can download the driver from the net? Thanks in advance. |

Have you registered on this site to see if you can get the drivers from there? However I would regard the Wanadoo advice as rubbish. A problem with the chips?? The first thing to do is tell Wanadoo that the system doesn't work and you want your money back or a replacement. Can you confirm that error message is COHIBA? Can't find anything on Google about that (apart from cigars). ![]() Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really? Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen. |

Cheers mate. The error message isn't coming up on the Wanadoo screen (that just says that no wirless link is possible) what's happening is that when I plug the adapter into the computer my system brings up the windows message saying it is searching for a driver for 'cohiba 3887 rev 0' and it can't seem to find it on the Wanadoo installation disk. I looked on the Inventel site last night, but can't seem to find the Clé Wep and Nom Produit codes you need to register on either the wireless adapter or the livebox itself. Is it worth just taking my hard drive and installation disk to PC World and let them have a look at it? |

I would hesitate before I took anything to PC World! Before you go down that road, what is the make and model no. of your PC? ![]() Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? I also have exactly the same problem. The Wanadoo wireless modem cannot see the wireless adaptor and device manager says it is looking for Cohiba 3887! Downloaded a patch from Microsoft that is meant to help if ones system is on an AMD chip and is still running Windows 98 seond edition but still no joy. Wanadoo clearly blown out of the water by the demand. Any help, gratefully accepted. |

Hi AlanH> We went through this installation yesterday. An absolute nightmare, and the "technical help" from Wanadoo was shite if I'm honest. Forget the Cohiba.....just forget it!!! Anyway. to cut a long (10 hours) story short, eventually, I went searching for drivers for this horrible Invental Wireless adapter, and came across a link which will install the neccessary files to make the thing work. Don't ask me what I clicked on, but basically we ran the setup programme, and then we found another programme on there where where you get the option to "repair" your installation. Do this, and it all suddenly came to life!! This is the link. If that doesn't work, a friend of mine relaibly tells me that this wireless adapter is also marketed by Draytek and the drivers and manual are available on http://www.draytek.com.tw/english/support/download/Vigor530.php The actual chipset inside the casing is manufactured by conexant and known as UR054g Hope this helps. My daughter's face when I finally connected her PC was a picture. Edited by greysts on 20/09/2004 22:19 (server time). |

Just thought I'd share my experience of this "cohiba 3887 rev 0" device problem. I only came across this message after trying to cure the 'Signal Strength - Low' problem on my 2nd PC upstairs which uses a wireless adapter also. I unplugged the adapter, and re-plugged back in to see a message "Hi-Speed USB device plugged into Non HI-Speed USB device" which I hadn't realised. So I put in a 2-port USB card (PCI), and tried connecting the adapter into that. Only then did I get the message about needing this "cohiba 3887 rev 0" driver. As it turns out the PCI card isn't that new and is does not have USB 2.0 technology either, so I'm still trying to address the 'Signal Strength - Low' problem. I was thinking about contacting the specialised Wanadoo Home technicians but after reading some of the other threads, and having spoken to them when I first received the router (totally useless they were - hadn't even heard of a WEP key!), I think I'll continue to try and rectify it myself (If it is possible). So unsure if this helps anyone with the "cohiba 3887 rev 0" problem, but it may point to the type of USB ports people are using. |

Hi I finally got my wireless adapter working with windows 98se and thought this may help some people. The problem I was getting when installing wanadoo software was it would not detect the wireless adapter, to cut a very long story short, what I ended up doing was download the software (which is in another reply higher up) from ftp://ftp.unex.com.tw/Drivers/UR054g.zip unzipped file UR054g then copied the folder named driver to my hard drive, now before running any installation I plugged in the wireless adapter, windows automatically search’s for drivers for new hardware, I can’t remember exactly what happened next. But, Then I went to- start / settings / control panel and opened system properties and went to device manager (view devices by type) under network adapter there should be 802.11g USB 2.0 adapter select properties for this device and update driver and specify location of saved driver folder from earlier. Hopefully now this device should be working properly. Then I left the adapter plugged in and ran wanadoo’s setup disc with out unplugging the adapter and this time it worked ok. No problems with it or anything I hope this helps. |

The Netgear WG111 v2 adapter also asks for a "Cohiba 3887" driver. You can download the latest Netgear driver (Sept. 2004) here: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/wg111v2.asp |
