Wanadoo Home Wireless

My flatmate and I have just installed Wanadoo Home. The idea is to have a hard wired connection on one PC via a router and one wireless connection also via a router on the other PC.
After hours of trial and error installation we have got it to work. However, on the wireless machine the wireless adapter, which is connected via USB, frequently loses its connection to the Wanadoo Home router. Its an Inventel Wireless Magic device and in its control panel it says that the connection has excellent security but low quality.
We have drawn the conclusion that either the wanadoo router is sending out poor signals or the wireless adapter is poor at receiving signals.
Can anyone shed some light?
Help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going spare here. The connection keeps dropping out. And even causes a windows fatal error (where the screen goes blue with white text) while browsing. I have windows 98 SE, is this the cause of my problems?
Wanadoos support is terrible - they know very little technically, one of them said "oh pack it up and send it back to us"
Don't know where else to turn? Has anyone else got this problem? Has anyone else got any problems with win98 and broadband?
Any help whatsoever would be appreciated. Even if its just to asy you have the same problems.

Has anyone tried using an alternative wireless adapter with the router, I have tried two pcmcia 802.11b devices which works with the WEP key off but not when the WEP key is on have tried adjusting the encryption settings, wannado says no other wireless cards work at all with it, could it be theres something in place to block other wireless cards. Also have experienced the low signal with the wireless adapter i found that turning it to the opposite site LED faced down works.

Hi! Been having the same issue with PCMCIA card... bought especially to use with Wanadoo, but can't get past the WEP key. Wanadoo tech support don't know what a PCMCIA card is! Cut me off when I tried to push to speak to a real techie. Anyone any ideas how to use the card?

It can be used when the wep security is turned off been devising ways of using the router with the card without having to use wep key even tried Mac address spoofing of the PCMCIA card but still does not work. Freeserve support are not technically minded. Anyone that is not technically literate SHOULD not be given a place in technical support as it is a bad idea provides bad support and projects a bad image to the company. It could be that freeserve is getting us all to pay 40 quid for the wireless usb adaptor.
What make of cards are you trying anyway m8.

hello csa i might be able to shed some light on ya prob, I myself work for wanadoo on the wanadoo home line, the unit does work but at the moment it's a pain in the rear to get working and as for the support well when wanadoo just give you a book to read on how to install it what do ya expect. anyway thats my rant over
here are some need to know things
A) it will not work on Windows 98 first edition no matter how much you try it needs 98SE at least
B) if ya getting the security key from the cd case don't trust it we've had cases where inventel have put the incorrect keys on the cd always go on the key that is on the unit it's self
when connecting wirelessly ensure that no other usb devices are plugged it when ya trying to get the net work card to pair with the unit it'self
if you are losing the link quite often if you into the configuration pages of the wanadoo home unit you can change the channel signal that the wanadoo home unit uses to sync with the network card
also ignore security and the quality status as it is a clitch in the inventel sofware every unit is reporting low quality and high security.
and inventel are devising a update for the firmware in the wanadoo unit
Ps the wanadoo unit checks for updates every 10days so when it is released your unit will detect it.

oh and when ya ring wanadoo support if ya not getting any luck from our don't ask to speak to a supervisor......ask to speak to a technical supervisor.....that way you will get a real techincal supervisor not just a team leader and you will probably get me if ya ring b4 10

Wanadoo Home Wireless delivered in 3 days (inc Bank Holiday !) BT ready in 4 days !
Speed & reliability very good on ethernet connection. Wireless having same drop-out problems reported above.
"Tech" support ignored e-mails. Phone call dealt with OK - sending new Inventel Wireless magic device. Does not sound as though this will do the job.
Has anyone tried the change channel suggestion? Did it work?

Hi KevMezz! Nice to hear someone talking with authority from Wanadoo. What about using my PCMCIA adapter. Is there any way of getting it to work.... it's standard format.
BTW, it's a D-Link wireless adapter.

I cannot discover if the Wanadoo Home wireless system allows me to use it as a wireless network for transfering files between computers and for using 1 printer on just one of the machines for use by all the computers conected to the Home machine.
Is it just a way of having the Broadband connection via a wireless method or can it provide full networking capabilities?
If yes has anyone tried it and does it work
And how is it set up?

I just received my Wanadoo Home today, and have one computer with a printer plugged into it via the network port, and one laptop over the wireless connection, and yup, you can use the wanadoo home to share files and a printer. All I did was set it all up with the wanadoo CD, plugged it all in and then ran the network setup wizard (in windows XP) on both machines, and it sorted itself out! Behold, printing from the end of the garden!

Hi,
I have just got my new wanadoo home wireless setup also, but am having problems setting up my PDA which is a HP Ipaq 4150.
I can set up the desktop to use a wireless setup, and i think the problem is the WEP keying. Does anyone know how to disable the WEP on my inventel router.
I have phoned the helpline and they are of no use whatsoever. It takes at least 12 mins to get someone and when i spoke to one women she didnt even know what WEP was.
I can see the wanadoo on my IPAQ but it wont connect! its really annoying please help.

I am going to try your suggestion and thanks for the help. I sypathise if Wanadoo reaaly give everyone that little training and I am sure that anyone's rants (mine included) are directed at Wanadon't and not anyone in particular that works there except maybe for the guy who hung up on me when I was being perfectly pleasant to him but explained (calmly) that he was not being anyhelp and that as I was paying for the call could I speak to someone who could help so a 10 out of 10 for his customer service.

I too have the same problem as csa, keeps going off-line on upstairs PC (no problems with downstairs PC) Signal strength is excellent there. I've tried using all the channels as suggested above but the strength is Low for all channels on mine.
Unsure as to whether or not it's because the USB 2.0 wireless adapter is plugged into a USB port that is not USB 2.0 so is therefore running slower than it could. Maybe kevmezz1982 can answer this?

hey
i had a "wireless" laptop for xmas.
tried configuring it to my wanadoo home but the wanadoo software wuldnt detect the built in wireless. So i thought solve the problem and bought a Belkin 54Mbps notebook wireless card. That installed orite and say's that theres a gd connection with the network but it will not connect to the internet.... i dont mind about printer sharing or anything, just want it for the internet. by the way.....it keeps telling me to check the internet settings on the laptop, and both the laptop and the main computer are connected wirelessly onto the modem

I've followed them to the letter and got good access. Maybe someone does know what they are doing at Wanadon't!

I have recieved so much ball from wanadoo it is stupid.
My 1st problem i had was when upgrading from 512kbps i lost connection for 2 weeks.
2nd problem i recieve my Livebox, follow instructions and when i got round to 1st plugin it in, i find that it is locked up. Wanadoo apoligise for this and send me the recovery cd 5 days later, i run the cd and nothing. They sent the wrong cd, gettin seriously annoyed i ring them again "oh we are very sorry blah blah blah...we will send u another cd" so i am sitting here 5 days later and no cd. I ring them again and because i am only 16 they now refuse to speak to me, now this has pushed me over the edge because my parents have no idea how it works, my dad has informed wanadoo that i am allowed access to the support but they refuse still.
My mate has got the livebox aswell and he is having the same problem with the usb adapter. I play online games so i do not want to be disconnected in the middle of my game.
I think wanadoo have taken the cheap option when producin the liveboxs and got the cheapest equipment goin

Customer Care, support - crap
Equipment - crap
Prices - rediculous
I am sorry but this is my opinion formed from experience
If the cd that was supposed to be delivered today does not work we will be switching ISP and advising others to do so
They gotta sort themselves out

I am also having trouble connecting my PDA to the Wanadoo wireless network. The help line had no idea and said that i had to speak to the support line for my PDA - well how should they know?! I have a Fujitsu Loox 720 Pocket PC - does anyone have any idea as to how I can get it to connect? It recognises network, I have put in the correct WEP key but it just won't connect which is so infuriating. I am not technically minded so if you have any answers could it be in words of one syllable please!!! Also can't connect PSP and helpline just said they didn't support any games consoles!
