Assigning applications to keyboard buttons

Instead of the calculator included with Windows I prefer the one from Moffsoft.com which includes a representation of a printout to help you see where you are going, or help you go backwards if you make a mistake. I have a Microsoft Internet Keyboard that has some of those shortcut buttons along the top and I set one of the buttons to access the Moffsoft calculator.
That worked OK first time but the computer kept reverting to the default. When I looked at the dialog in Control Panel .Keyboards I found that the button was still set to bring up Moffsoft. I clicked on it and OK'd it and the button did what I wanted it to. Eventually I solved the problem by removing the default calculator from my computer.

However I also want another of those buttons to open WordPad and I have a similar problem. In this case the unwanted application opened is the bookmarks sidebar in Firefox and I don't know how to cure that.

Does anyone know the answer please? I am running WinXP Home Edition SP2 and Firefox 3.
