fitted new hard drive

hiya
i was given a pc which has 1g RAM but needed a hard drive, has both SATA and IDE connections, ive fitted a SATA hard drive 160gb but am now trying to load the OS, the problem im having is it loads up and says press F1 to continue or DEL for set up, when pressing F1 it comes up with all the pci and disk info listed and at the bottom says verifying DMI pool data but goes no futher. any ideas as its frustrating , am wondering if theres something i need to do on the BIOS so i can actually get to load windows xp or not and if i have to connect anything else with the SATA drive , so far i have linked the power cable to the power and the SATA cable to the SATA connector, i would appreciate any ideas as its bugging me now lol
please help if u can

You don't need to do press the F1 or Del key.
As long as it's set to boot from the CD, let it get that far, then when it says "Press any key to boot from CD" press a key and follow the instructions.

hiya
thanks for the reply ,ive set it to boot from cd in the settings but it doesnt do anything , doesnt say press any key to continue , im going to try and put the hard drive in my other pc which has SATA hard drive and install windows that way , the BIOS and CMOS settings are a bit double dutch as this is first time ive attempted anything like this so not sure if they are set up correct. will let u know if this works and thanks for the advice.

ok loading windows onto the hard drive from my pc worked , when used back in its own case windows works fine phewwwwwww lol
the problem i get now is connecting internet to other pcs thru my router or modem doesnt seem to want to work so i have to figure that out and then my mission is complete.
thanks for all ur help it is appreciated , its a good job there are forums like these where ppl can help other ppl out ,well done webusers.
any advice re:' setting up internet connection will be appreciated but i will look thru forums and see if i get advice from other posts.

You're lucky it works, as Windows installs to run the hardware on the PC the hard drive is connected to.
Do you connect to the 'net using an ethernet cable? If so, the network drivers may not have been installed.
Go to Device Manager and see if you have any yellow question marks:
Right-click My Computer > Properties.
Click the Hardware tab, then Device Manager.
