Medion 5100 Constantly Rebooting

Hello,

I used the "Application and Support disk" which came with my computer to reload the original drivers onto my system. A program which I liked to use (Power Producer Gold) had stopped working, so I thought I'd try to re-load the original drivers to try and get it working again. I used "Option 2" after I accessed the "Application and Support" disk. I wasn't trying to wipe everying out and start from scratch.

Reloading the drivers went very, very slowly. It took probably 45 minutes. When it finally finished, the computer tried to boot itself up. It could not get to the desk top. Now, when I turn on the computer, it keeps booting and then re-boots, re-boots, etc.

I have tried a number of things to get the computer to stop continually re-booting. I have hit the "delete" key to access the menu for setting the default BIOS settings. I hit F10 to save and exit. This hasn't worked. I have also moved the jumpers on my mother board. Also, I accessed the "Application and Support disk" and chose option 1 to re-load the start files.

My motherboard instructions are located at:

http://217.110.237.67/Manuals/7046-engl%20v1.0%20-%20MS-7046.pdf

The instructions said to move the jumpers to position 2 and 3, and then, without turning on the computer, to move the jumpers back to positions 1 and 2. I've done it, and the problem persists.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Medion 5100 Constantly Rebooting

I've got a piece of the puzzle - my hard drive is not being detected by BIOS. I'm still researching if anyone has a link to help me out on this.

The manual for my mobo is located at:

http://217.110.237.67/Manuals/7046-engl%20v1.0%20-%20MS-7046.pdf

I googled MS-7046 to find it. If anyone is brilliant I'd love an answer, otherwise I'll just do the trial and error thing. What drudgery these computers are at times!

Your original problem doesn't sound like it was related to the hard drive so have you accidentally knocked the connector out whilst moving jumpers around?

Re: Medion 5100 Constantly Rebooting

Hi Thanks for the response:

By "origninal problem" are you referring to my wanting to replace Power Producer Gold? I wanted to re-load drivers because PPG suddenly quit working for me.

Othewise, in the course of trying to fix this, I've unplugged all connections (power and IDE) and re-connected the CD and CD writer, and the floppy and the hard drive. It continues to reboot, never getting to the desk top.

I've finally learned how to pause the screen at bootup. (Very complicated, hit the "pause" button). Here is some of the information which is presented while my computer is initializing:

Pri Master DVD-RW, ATA 33
Pri Slave DVD, ATA 33

Sec Master None
Sec Slave None

IDE Channel 2 Master Disk: LBA, ATA 100, 200GB

My HD is 200GB, but it is SATA. Doesn't this confirm that it isn't being properly detected?

As a matter of fact I just looked, I don't see ANY jumpers on the back of my hard drive.....

Re: Medion 5100 Constantly Rebooting

There aren't any jumpers on a SATA hard drive.

You may need to look in the BIOS for a setting that relates to hard disks. Look for the boot order menu and there should be an option to select which hard drive. You only have one so if there's anything relating to RAID, you may need to set that to use an IDE configuration.
