wireless keyboard range

I am considering getting a wireless keyboard and mouse none of the ones i have looked at have any indication as to what range they have is there a general rule or could they vary considerably? I what to set up a hardrive to my tv so as to cut down clutter in my living room and wander if they would reach far enough.

I think the range is about 5-10 meters.
