Bought a HP 3180 series printer and have spent hours trying to connect it. Have had various suggestions from HP support none of which have worked and yet it will load onto my laptop OK so is obviously a fault on my main PC? It loads as far as connecting to the USB port and recognising new hardware and I then get an error message, a large red cross on the diagram of the usb connection and it says it is unable to install it. The printer is working Ok, its just a problem with the USB somewhere. Have tried deleting all USB ports and reinstalling them, have removed all traces of old printer from the computer and removed anti virus and spyware but still no good. Has anyone got any ideas what it could be please? |

No one able to help me on this one? I called out a computer specialist but he could not find out the reason why it will not install. Could it be something on my PC that is conflicting with the printer? Would a Hijack this Log show up anything, I am baffled. |

Disconnect all USB Device's that are hooked up. Do not connect the printer yet, uninstall HP3180 and all software associated with it. Reboot, install hp3180 software without the printer connected, untill prompted now connect printer. |

I have the same problem. On laptop the instalation was OK. On desktop I have the same trouble as you. Rule 1: don't trust in CD came with the printer. Mine is not good. I downloaded the kit from HP site. Here is the way I installed the HP3180 on my desktop computer: I pluged the HP3180 USB cable before start the installation. The OS (XP) recognize the device. (you must have the proper USB2 driver for your motherboard). Start the installation and when the software ask you for USB cable move the USB cable from the curent port to another (hope you have another free USB port). This way the installation was finished OK. The bad news is that I tried to install the produsct software and it start to install once again the drivers and this time fails. Let me know if someone find the secret of this installation. |
