computer keeps on shutting by itself

My computer keeps on shutting by itself every 20 mins or so. It does it by itself suddenly without any warning.

What can cause this? Everytime I scan a for virus, computer shuts before virus scan can be complete.

Help??

Re: computer keeps on shutting by itself

Could be overheating. The more intense work required by the scan makes it more likely.

Download and install Everest Home Edition

Run it and click on + next to Summary on the left side, then Sensor.

Now run your AV scan again and move the Everest Window to the top. What temps does the CPU reach?

Re: computer keeps on shutting by itself

Thanks for reply,

CPU went up to 68c (129F) when the pc shut. CPU had higher temp then any of the other components.

Will I have to change the fan to fix this prob?

Re: computer keeps on shutting by itself

68c isn't really that high.

Possibly borderline. What CPU is it? Have a look at this

A good clean between the heatsink and fan with a stiff brush to clear out any accumulated dust/gunk will help.
