unable to restore computer

I seem to have a few problems on my pc.My kids and i use olympus master and olympus master 2 for our digital cameras and when i try to open olympus master i get a message saying windows encountered a problem and needs to shut this programme down immediately and when i try to open olympus master 2 the message reads that i have a runtime error. I have tried to add/remove these to then try and re-install but it wont let me. I then tried to do a system restore point and have tried several with the same results on restarting the pc it says it was unable to restore to this point try another point. Any indeas?

To remove olympus try booting your pc into... "safe mode"...and uninstalling from there.

Often , a sign a pc's infected. Have you run scans recently............how's the pc performing ?

Re: unable to restore computer

ive managed to delete olympus master but olympus master 2 wont delete even in safe mode as u suggested. The pc is running okay apart from this. When norton was removed from the pc i was able to do restore points and got both the olympus progs to work. could the problem be with norton?

I'm not a Norton user , or a fan of their software , so it would be unfair of me to blame it. As you yourself suspect it's at the root of the problem then i guess you need to decide what's best.
As everything seems to work with Norton removed you can leave it uninstalled and replace it with alternatives ( we can help you choose if you wish and they can be had for free ) , or , you could try to reinstall it to see if the situation returns.
For me , I'd suggest as you've got everything up and running again to go for the first option.

Hello pickl00. You could try and remove olympus 2 with one of these utilities.

or.

No problem. Couple of things i need to know first.

What operating system are you using.
What Norton package was it , antivirus or internet security .
Apart from Norton do you have any other security progs installed .

Once i know this i can advise on what to install........all free.

Re: unable to restore computer

OK , you need :

A firewall - i would say the two most popular are Zone Alarm and Comodo......so choose ONE of these.

Anti-Spyware - i suggest you install AVG Anti-Spyware AND Spybot Search and Destroy. These two apps will work nicely alongside your installation of adaware 2007.

Prevention software - Spyware Blaster.......download it , install it and then check for updates. It will then run quietly in the background . You don't need to do anything else with it apart from regularly checking for updates.

All these programmes are FREE and links to the sites can be had....here
So, that's the main protection options covered.

Now i presume you're using Internet Explorer for your browsing ? If so i don't really think you need the panicware pop up stopper as IE has a built in pop up stopper ( and antiphishing ). It's also important to check you are fully updated with Microsoft updates , which includes Internet Explorer 7.

That's the alternative Norton security options covered . If there's anything features of Norton that you use , and I've not covered , just let us know.

Any more help needed , feel free to post.

Although i use Outlook Express i don't have any problems with spam , so i can't really say what antispam apps are good or not. For me , if i get an e-mail, and don't recognize the sender , i don't think twice and just use Outlooks "block sender" option. It works foe me , don't know about others.

What i suggest you do is get all the other bits and bobs sorted out and then start a new post on the spam problem. There's many other members on the forum who will be happy to give you advice on this.
