C drive nearly full, D drive empty.

Hi - my Sony laptop has 2 drives - C & D. Drive C is nearly full but Drive D is not used. What happens when C IS full? Does D get automatically used?
Sorry, newby here.

When C is full, C is full!

The Sony either has 1 Drive with 2 partitions, C & D or 2 separate Drives C & D.
C Drive will almost always have the Operating System installed on it and your installed programs, although not always, and space for storage, while D Drive is intended for storage.

You can drag items across from the C Drive to the D, or simply copy/paste to D to make room. Deleting the now duplicated data on the C Drive if need be.
Make a habit of saving in the future to the D Drive. It has it's advantages too. Should you have major problem with the C Drive, you should have all your important data saved on the D Drive and you can reformat the C Drive or reinstall the Operating System without interfering with the storage Drive.

Hope this makes sense.

OR... your D drive is simply your CD/DVD Rom drive, and as such it can't be filled!

. . . . "OR... your D drive is simply your CD/DVD Rom drive, and as such it can't be filled!" . . . .

The CD/DVD Rom drive perhaps would come under 'Devices with removerable storage' and not HDD which I believe is implied here.

Shame the OP couldn't get back to confirm.

Welcome to the forums and Merry Christmas.

Re: C drive nearly full, D drive empty.

Thank you for the welcome, and greetings. I hope you had an enjoyable Christmas.
I may be underestimating Snoylybum, but he or she seems to be a little inexperienced (if I'm wrong I apologise)and I thought maybe they were simply looking in 'My Computer' and seeing the C and D drives, and asuming that they were both HDD's. It seems unlikely now that I think about it!
Regards.
