System Restore Points eaten up Thanks to Windows Defender (Check yours!)

I think this will apply to almost everybody with XP
I was going to make a manual System Restore Point before making some major updates.
And clicked on the link to access the Program and I know there was 3 months worth of Restore points to go back to. I made a Topic about the same not long ago...
Now thanks to Windows Defender it is down to just 9 days! With several entries(restore points) made per day!! ( roughly every 2 hours!) all saying typically...
Quote:

10:06:05 PM Windows Defender Checkpoint
8:27:18 PM Windows Defender Checkpoint
3:04:26 PM Windows Defender Checkpoint
1:12:56 PM Windows Defender Checkpoint
02:09:39 AM Windows Defender Checkpoint

.And any "Manual Restore Point" is lost fast.(in about 9 days)
I didn't authorise Windows Defender to do these several times every day
Can I reduce this either to a 1 per day or week and spin out the restore points
again over a longer period?

You can change the interval between Windows generated system restore points :-

Start, Run, type regedit and navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore. In RPGlobalInterval, it is set to 86400 (seconds) which represents 24 hours. Right-click it and change it accordingly.

As i don't have windows defender i had a little trawl through the microsoft newsgroups . It seems it's a known problem , or not depending who you are , but it seems you can also overcome it by tweaking the programmes registry settings.

A link for your perusal...... here.

It seems everybodies baffled by it And there are several "solutions", all by Registry editing (not going there)
MS should have spotted this in Testing . Not released it as a full scale Beta
Somebody keep an eye out for a patch or Upgrade with this issue acknowledged and rectified (perhaps via Windows Update)?
Have a feeling it'll be August before anything is done about it

I had a problem with it and the speedtouch 330 modem every time I ran windows defender, as soon as the PC was restarted I couldn't get an internet connection unless I re installed the driver for the modem. So it was bye-bye windows defender

I've noticed this too, although some days it makes only one restore point. I get rid of them by running Disk Cleanup>More Options and deleting all but the most recent restore point. It doesn't stop me from creating my own restore points if I need to. Apart from this, I've had no problems with Windows Defender.

I deleted it as i don't think its any better than the free progs you can get on the Internet.

I also cannot believe they missed the bug.
