Iam currently trying to listen to talk sport through media player it has gone crackly
with bleeps and other wierd noises now ive got no sound at all and the program is showing that it is still running. AlsoI tried bbc five live and its comming up mmsystem 281 check file name or install driver that supports this. Had my computer cleared last month and have not used the sounds/madia/radio untill to-day would be greatfull for any help thanks Iain

Open Notepad by clicking on Start | Programs | Accessories | Notepad
Click file | Open.
Locate the C: Windows folder and select win.ini and open it.
Look through the file and if there is a section listed as [mci extensions], then look for a line that says avi=avivideo
If there is a section called [mci extensions] but no line that says avi=avivideo then add the line avi=avivideo
If there is no section called [mci extensions] then add the following to the end of the win.ini file so it looks like this
[mci extensions]
mid=Sequencer
rmi=Sequencer
wav=waveaudio
avi=AVIVideo

Do a Search
Start | Search For Files and Folders
Type in win.ini
Right click when you find it and Open with Notepad

You should have some driver disks for it, If not, Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | System | Device Manager
Look for Sound , Video and Game Controllers section, click the plus sign to the left to expand it, please post back what it says there

just been checking other sounds ie for on/ off microsoft sound ect it is comming up with cannot play c:windowsmedia may be damaged ect ect
