grrrr real player and windows media player suck!

hi all,
i have just had my computer returned from repair and am having to download all my programs again cos i had my hard drive replaced. i have win98 and have downloaded windows media player and realOne player, as i had before it was sent off. i use both because windows media is pretty decent for playing normal cd's, but realOne is preferred by many sites incl. BBC. also, i now make my CD's using a program called Mixmeister, which enables you to mix the tracks together and then export them into .wav files, enabling you to play them as a burned CD if you want. WMP does not play the finished CD properly whereas RealOne does.

anyway, enough of the life story, i'll get to the point.
when i downloaded RealOne it asked me to register by connecting to their site and signing up etc, however it cant connect for whatever reason, so i cancel this prompt box and start using the player. it plays fine - thats not a problem. what is a problem is that i have to first put the CD in my E drive, open realOne player, play the CD (no volume though, for some strange reason) and then put it in my F drive, and thats when it plays (after plenty of pop ups and so forth). this didnt happen before, and i wondered how to get round this problem.

do you suggest another player that supports the type of stuff that BBC and other sites offer, and most importantly, will my CD work? if i play it in WMP, at the end of every track it jumps where the songs are meant to mix (hence my reason for using the other player).

apologies for the long post, i had to put all details! i hope someone can help me out as i will be using my computer as a CD player at University, i dont want to have to be ejecting CDs every five minutes just to get them to play!

cheers
spag

aha! is that done by the same people who make KazaaLite? i was considering that and was going to ask what you thought of it, does it give you any problems, do i need to remove RealOne and Windows Media for it to work? and of course, will it play my CDs because of the way theyre made?

Re: grrrr real player and windows media player suck!

It actually uses a real player codec inserted into WMP6.4

I would uninstall Real

will i have any probs with it clashing with WMP? and does it work in the same way as RealOne i.e. it should play my CD's, right?

Re: grrrr real player and windows media player suck!

No actually it's a bonus. It plays DVD's AND unlike WMP 8 & 9 you can have more than one instance open so you could watch two items at the same time. In fact, I watch the Beeb news while listening to my MP3s

Re: grrrr real player and windows media player suck!

so its basically what KazaaLite is compared to Kazaa, but its got a few other features that RealOne doesnt have? But it works in the same way i.e. it will play my CD's??? thats what my main concern is, as you have probably guessed!

Re: grrrr real player and windows media player suck!

puta, i need your help - i have downloaded the real alternative but it does not work on my computer. i have downloaded version 1.04, but when i click to open the Media Player Classic it gives the following messages:

"C:\Program Files\Media Player Classic\mplayerc.exe

A device attached to the system is not functioning."

then, after i click OK:

"The MPLAYERC.EXE file is linked to missing export DDRAW.DLL:DirectDrawCreateEx."

by the way, i uninstalled RealOne as you suggested.

any ideas?

Re: grrrr real player and windows media player suck!

puta,
im giving up on the alternative - i think its rubbish compared to realOne and have decided to reinstall realOne again. it seems to work ok now - maybe something went wrong last time i installed it that caused all those problems.
thanks again for your prompt replies,
spag
