Now that I finally got some sound on my Computer I started using Windows Media Player. What I want to do is extract my favourite tracts from various CDs I have into a folder on the hard drive and have them play in succession on Media Player . I can do this by copying them to another disk and it works fine from there but when I copy them to Media player it puts them in separate albums instead of one and I have to manually start them individually. How can I get around this? Once, during Prohibition, I was forced to live on nothing but food and water. - W.C. Fields . |

Its a bit fiddly but I got it sorted out. You have to put them in a play list. Thanks folks. Once, during Prohibition, I was forced to live on nothing but food and water. - W.C. Fields . |

sounds to me like you would be better off with winamp which is freeware. you can make up your own playlists quite easily. if i had known i would live this long, i would have taken better care of myself. |

with winamphere. you get a ten band graphic equaliser and a lot of other functions,i have found it easy to use and reliable. i have used it for about 2 years, and when i got a new comp recently it was one of the first things i d/loaded to the new comp.i think you would be better getting it from here. it's a newer version. if i had known i would live this long, i would have taken better care of myself. I've found that Winamp is the best of the bunch for music. The sound is loads better. Trouble these days is you need several different kinds of media players to be able to use the services of different sites. http://www.jonny555.co.uk The No.1 amateur watercolour community on the net. |

Hi guys, I've downloaded the Winamp3, all I have to do now is figure out how to use it. I found it easy to play tracts selectively from the CD but I have still to work out how to save the selected tracts to a folder on the hard drive and use them in a play-list from there. It doesn't recognize the the tracts I already saved for Media Player. All advice welcome. Thanks again, Joe. Once, during Prohibition, I was forced to live on nothing but food and water. - W.C. i take it you've went to..........options/preferences/file types, and selected all. then click on ADD (at the bottom of the winamp playlist) then click add/dir. this opens a window for you to browse for files. if i had known i would live this long, i would have taken better care of myself. |

Hi Bricat, Yes I tried that exactly the way you describe and just repeated the exercise in case I did something different, but to no avail. Funnily enough when I set the path to my CD drive with a disk loaded I have no trouble and can even select my favourite songs to play in succession. Thats exactly what I want to do from the hard drive. Could it be the file extension perhaps? I set it to "All" I did create my own folder, would that make a difference? Really fishing here. Thanks for you efforts, really appreciated. Joe. Once, during Prohibition, I was forced to live on nothing but food and water. - W.C. Fields . |

i think you'd have to find the file that wmp created for your files, if it creates one , i really don't use wmp for music at all. have always used winamp. maybe some one has a better grasp of this than me. if i had known i would live this long, i would have taken better care of myself. |

Open the Playlist Editor and click on the Playlist button (bottom right) and select create new playlist. Choose the location of the tracks you want or the directory if you want all tracks. Now right click on the new playlist and rename it. Click the playlist button again and select 'save playlist as'. Now you choose where to save it on your hard drive. http://www.jonny555.co.uk The No.1 amateur watercolour community on the net. |

Hi Jonny, I did that exactly as you suggest and did it again after reading your post just in case I got something wrong, all to no avail. I can create a play-list easy enough from a CD and play all or some of the tracts as I wish, the problem is unlike Windows Media Player, I cannot save the tracts to a folder to play later when I remove the disk from the CD Drive. Another problem is there is no help instructions with the programme that I can find or information to explain what it does. I guess its aimed at young people who have grown up with this type of thing and to whom it is all second nature. Oldsters like me need better instructions. Thanks again Jonny and Bricat for all your help. I'd welcome any other information you can give as it looks very impressive indeed. Joe. the only thing i could find was this. the songs on wmp, were they d/loaded or were they from your own cd's, if the were from your own cd's you might have to convert them to mp3 and put them into a folder on your hard drive, i'm sure you could find a free mp3 stripper at download .com. if i had known i would live this long, i would have taken better care of myself. |

I think I understand what you want now. You need to record the tracks to your hard drive. All the playlist really is, is a set of paths to the music files. It doesn't actually record the tracks. http://www.jonny555.co.uk Amateur Watercolour Community |

Thats exactly the problem Jonny, The programme doesn't seem to have the ability to copy from CD (My own) to the hard disk whereas Windows Media Player does. Basically all I want to do is copy those tracts I like to my hard drive and thereby save myself the trouble of loading disks all the time into the CD drive. I'll keep Winamp installed for a while in any event but in the meantime I'm ok as WMP does the job quite well. Many thanks again guys. Joe. Hello Bricat, I downloaded and installed NeoAudio as you suggested, it seems to make it work I need to download and install ASPI Drivers as well. Any ideas where I can get these from? In addition the following programmes came bundled with the download some of which keep asking for Internet access and some have attached themselves to my Internet Explorer. Do I need all this stuff and if not can I just un-install them? looks like that has come with a load of junk attached, if you want to hold on i'll see if i can find one without the junk attached, i certainly wouldn't allow most of them to access the net. i'll see what i can find. if i had known i would live this long, i would have taken better care of myself. |

i found this one. and have went right through and d/loaded it, it has no spyware or other rubbish on it, pick the "belgium"site for your d/load. i would get rid of the other one, sorry i didn't check it better before giving you the link. if i had known i would live this long, i would have taken better care of myself. |

Hi Bricat, Following my last post I ran Ad-Aware and discovered 58 items of spyware which I quarantined. AVG showed nothing but Highjack this came up with all sorts of things which weren't there before. I'll post the log in the security thread and see if Putasolutions will help as I'm not too sure of myself using that programme. In the meantime I've un-installed some of the obvious stuff that attached to my Browser together with all unwanted cookies ant temporary Internet files. Just shows doesn't it, the most careful of us can get caught out from time to time. Once, during Prohibition, I was forced to live on nothing but food and water. - W.C. Fields . |

i thought it would have been reasonably safe coming from DOWNLOADS.COM. once again i apologise for that, i'll have to be more careful in the future, i'm sure puta will have a look at your hijack this log.the other one is "clean" i down loaded it and set it up with no problems, and that site tells you there are no spyware attached to any of their software. if i had known i would live this long, i would have taken better care of myself. |

No harm done Bricat, it was bound to happen eventually given the amount of stuff I try out. Looking on the bright side its all good experience and I think it is just companies pushing their stuff and installing tracking cookies on your Computer without permission. This was an extreme example of what they do. Once, during Prohibition, I was forced to live on nothing but food and water. - W.C. Fields . |

Hello Bricat, Jonny and all, I have now installed the cdex_150 ripper and Winamp works but there is a problem in that it keeps missing bits like an old fashioned gramophone needle jumping the tract. However all the Media Players recognise the file format. I have also tried out Quintessential which like WMP has its own ripper. Its very good, none of the problems I have with cdex_150, it gives you the choice of location to save the files and the file format. As to playing quality, I've not made my mind up but its either Winamp3 or Quintessential. So what I'm now doing is ripping with Quintessential and deciding about which one to use as player. Any comments? Ps. What is WMP 9 everyone is talking about? If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. |

How does it compare with the others? Most posts here and elsewhere Nirvana seem to suggest WMP is inferior. I certainly found the sound quality on my WMP inferior to the others I tried. Ps. Whats the Site URL? If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. |
